Bud Lindemann road tests the 1969 Dodge Charger 500, which just wasn’t good enough and they built the Daytona shortly after.

The Car Chrysler was trying to beat 1969 Torino Cobra

and finally the 1971 Ford Torino GT

“full size sedan” kinda a conflict, it certainly is full size but sedan it is not.

also 400 odd horses and a 6.9 second 0-60, something doesn’t add up.

Also, “super car” is a little much. If we are talking american cars the hemi cuda, 455 SD trans am fit quite a bit better.

On the 0-60 times I chalk that up to street tires being terrible back then, but I just enjoy watching these old road tests.

I get it, I just like to remind people that tires sucked, like taking a new Corvette putting space saver spares on the back, turning off traction control and trying to set a 0-60 time.

I’m pretty sure the Muira at the time was close to 7sec too.

Funny when you think, even today, there’s a still Charger with as much power as an Aventador.

I guess x type is right, it must have been the tires, because even changing from gross to net horsepower could only lose tops 100 hp. Google says the 69 only weighed 3,600 lbs which is less than the new challenger sxt. That gets 0-60 in 6 flat so... maybe figure ~350 hp net with the three speed auto to blame.
