Not sure how many oppos here read manga, but I do. I read it (on my phone) at random times. Unfortunately, I’ve exhausted most of the good and obvious material.

Currently I just started Toriko; it started off weak (imho), but it’s getting better and interesting; I like to see the cool original plant and animal designs. I also am up-to-date with Fairy Tail, One Piece, and OnePunch Man. I’ve also read all of Hunter x Hunter (hasn’t been updated in a while -_- ), Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball (original and Z), and Rave Master. I’ve read most of Bleach, OnePunch Man (One), and Baruto; but I’m not up to date on them consistently.

I got through most of Initial D, but it got highly repetitive and I couldn’t keep track of all the characters (Bleach suffers from this too, I don’t know the names just faces). I stopped reading Initial D, but I can always try it again.

Any suggestions? I’m willing to try anything at least once.

Might be worth a read though, if not for the Juke, lol.

I hear nothing but good things on AoT, but then again, you never know if it’s just the recent hype. I remember the Naruto hype. Naruto was pretty good, it wasn’t amazing as the fans depicted it; still good though.

To be honest, you might be missing out. Then again, I like to look at pictures since I’m a visual person. Reading books was never my cup of tea.

If you’re not opposed to older stuff, in order GOAT: 1) Urusei Yatsura, 2) Kimagure Orange Road, 3) Dr. Slump, 4) Maison Ikkoku

AoT will hit you where it hurts, and then just keep punching you while you’re down. I think it’s amazing. If you have a Netflix account you can watch the first season. The manga is significantly farther along.

I would love to watch the anime, but the manga is significantly easier to pick up at a later time. As a parent, it’s hard to find time to watch the anime. Right now I’m watching Dragon Ball Super (dub and sub), Gundam: IBO (dub and sub), gundam unicorn (dub), Star Wars: rebels, and that’s all I can handle at the moment. :/

I’ve heard of Slump, it’s the earlier work of the creator of dragon ball (I don’t know authors name). Plus the slump characters have lots of cameos in his work.

Yep, I’m a big fan of One Piece. The running joke on our house is that our cat ate the mew mew fruit, which is why she mews a lot... and can’t swim, :).

Wasn’t aware FLCL had a manga, I’ve considers Sailor Moon before just for kicks (hey, that’s how I read Naruto). Unfortunately, I can’t find the complete Trigun manga online. That was really good, and I read everything, but the ending was never scanned. Trigun would be something that I’d consider buying though; as Vash is an inspiration to me.

I’m a sucker for that gen mustang. It’s so weird looking that it becomes beautiful in a awkward yet enchanting way. Plus that green looks awesome, :).

I haven’t read much manga... but I recently read CLAMP’s Tsubasa and I found it to be really good. It’s a little slow at times but it makes up with an awesome story and a great final act.

Also, a really good manga/anime to watch/read with kids is Cardcaptor Sakura. It’s a little girly at times yes, but the story is so nice and positive. The kawaii is off the charts!

Grim dark fantasy with gorgeous artwork and a protagonist who is your average grim-dark loner but greatly evolves throughout the course of the manga as you learn his backstory. In a way it’s a story of destiny, and whether or not it’s a real thing, or if life is just what you make of it.

Just google image search Berserk (beware some NSFW imagery though)

Basically it draws you in by being so badass but it turns into so much more than that.

Also, it is the embodiment of the giant sword trope, in a good way

As for a very quick synopsis, you meet a monster of a man fighting demons, then go back in time to see how he got there, mostly through his experience with a mercenary company called the Band of the Hawk. This part is excellent. Then we go back to where we started and see him hunting demons and accomplishing some other goals, and that part is less good. Be advised that while the whole thing is incredibly violent, and once you start dealing with demons there is a lot of nudity and rape as well. The first anime largely manages to avoid this because of where it ends, but ends in very depressing place. The newer anime is apparently a giant mess, I haven’t watched it.

It is legitimately good. They’ve started explaining some mysteries, and I’m not sure the explanation is as good a story as they could be telling, but it’s good. There’s a prequel story as well, that also seems pretty solid in my mind.

Yeah the 2016 anime was hot shit. I’m conflicted because I want to support Berserk anime because I want more, but I don’t want them to think that what they gave us was acceptable. We’ll see how the next season goes, but I don’t have my fingers crossed.

Also, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

A lot, and I mean a lot, of manga and anime has drawn from and referenced JJBA. It’s been going since 1987. It’s got vampires, crime noir, magic, ancient Aztec vampire gods of fitness, friendship, loss, shenanigans, plane crashes, Nazis, spirit ghosts that fight for their users, more vampires, ZA WARUDO, sweet hair, villains who get boners over Mona Lisa’s hands, fabulously gay Italian mafia, King Crimson It Just Works, universe resets, horse races, and much more.

Also unlike Berserk, the anime is also excellent. It and Hunter x Hunter are my two favorite anime ever.

I realize this is an old post but it popped up at the bottom so.... Oh well.

Tokyo ghoul. The anime is atrocious. I was told to read the Manga afterwards but couldn’t bring myself to do it because of how awful the second season of the anime was. But.... Eventually I caved and boy was it worth it.

Berserk and AoT. AoT being especially great if you’ve seen the Manga, as it adds so much, and carries the story on about 3x as far currently, t where things REALLY get worth it. Berserk has been talked about enough, but note that the rush of more high quality adult-oriented anime over the past few years was due to Berserk’s popularity.

And finally, RE zero. The anime is fantastic, for a “young man thrown into an unfamiliar fantasy world” story they really made this something special. It revolves around the concept of the main character—Subaru—going back to a previous moment in time whenever he dies. So he keeps his memories, but no when else remembers what happened, and the world is unaffected. This is a very dark anime, currently one of my favorites. I’ve heard the Manga is great as well
