Yes.
That section of 22 has these u-turns every couple hundred feet. Traffic is always atrocious and there’s no signals or merge lanes. You are basically waiting for a slow car or somebody nice enough to let you in. That’s not hyperbole.
Further out west the same road has a different issue- u-turns with no street lights and bushes in the way. Total death traps.

That sucks.
We’ve got some highways like that here in MI. The higher-traffic ones are usually pretty good about having a signal every mile or so, so that you can drive a little further if you really want to use a protected turn. But there are still some that go several miles with no such provision.

U-turns like that are actually a step in the right direction and when executed properly will serve the overall road better than signalized intersections. However, the U-turns shown lack deceleration lanes, acceleration lanes, and safe sight lines for those trying to re-enter the traffic flow, so I can’t imagine they’re of much use except in off-peak hours. Are there any adjacent signals that force gaps in the traffic?

Ugh. The worst part of the design is how the curvature of the U-turn forces you to put your back to the traffic that you’re trying to merge into. How the heck are you supposed to manage that?

Best part is the HUGE pot hole and poor cover up they did that basically forces you towards the right curb of the U turn.

U-turns like that are probably a good idea in Nebraska, where one or two cars execute the turn every 30 min.
They are not a good idea on Rt 22 which is probably in the top 1% of congested roads in the world, and 60mph vehicles suddenly encounter 5mph vehicles every 100 yards or so. The U-Turns don’t include the multiple in/out driveways for what must be fifty stores on the median, with entry/exits 20 feet apart from each other.
I have memories of being on that road quite often, shortly after getting my license, with my friend in the passenger seat. “Wait.....wait.....nope.....wait....wa......GO FOR IT!!!!!”
Good thing I never stalled.
I hate 22.
