t looked and handled alot better in ‘03. And christ, the soundtrack. I can hear this OST being played at someone’s class of ‘98 high school graduation party.

This was my first PS2 game. Ohh the memories. Dusted off the PS2 a few months ago and played this game. Must have been at least 10 years. It was a blast.

Loved that game. Learning curve over weeks of play was to leave rubber banding on so I could keep up, then turned it off so the AIs wouldn’t artificially catch me late in the race, then turned it back on so I’d actually have some competition.
And as I recall, it was almost always more fun to drive the slow cars.

I had this on GameCube and it was *awesome* for the time. I still fire up the GameCube and play it occasionally.

I played this recently and was disappointed by the handling that I remembered to be so realistic . But it’s close enough, at least you’ve got oversteer even if it’s toned down.
I’d say TDU and Horizon became the spiritual successors to this game.
