I can’t get one lugnut to even budge. I think the guy who put on my tires went a little overboard. Opposuggestions?

The biggest breaker bar you can get your hands on, then put your back into it. You can also slip a pipe over the breaker bar if you need more leverage. You definitely don’t want to use the torque wrench for it, though, as you might destroy the mechanism.

Soak it with PB blaster over night. Hit it with a 1/2 drive socket in the morning (not that dial torque wrench) with about a 2' cheater bar. Worst that can happen is you shear off the stud, and need to take it to les Swab for a new stud.

I hope you’re not using the torque wrench as a breaker bar....
Get a breaker bar. Don’t be shy about it.
I have abused a Husky 18mm wrench to a degree no tool should be abused. I can’t recommend it enough.
I would get a milk crate, for stability, and put your body weight on it. Maybe a couple jumps could get it to break free. If you have a hollow metal pipe, use that for even more leverage.

1. That’s a great way to mess up your torque wrench.
2. Use a real tire iron and not a dinky little spare tire one. I have a Gorilla telescoping lug wrench . I’ve yet to encounter an over-tightened lug that I couldn’t break loose with it (this may also have something to do with the copious amount of weights I lift).

I have successfully used a 4ft hollow pipe hose-clamped to a 18" breaker on the lower strut bolts of a Subaru.. after my electric impact wrench rattled away at it.. would recommend.
Have also jumped on Chevy tire irons when stuck in the bush- with limited success.

Before I bought a breaker bar, I had lugs I couldn’t get off my old Volvo wagon. Discount Tire rotates tires free of charge, so I went there and had them rotate. Went home, removed the wheels, worked on the brakes as planned. That’s assuming you can drive the car somewhere.

So long as you’re careful not to throw your back out, I find that UPward pressure works really well. That way, you can brace yourself against the floor/ground and pull instead of being limited to just body weight.

You got a torch? Heat her up. You spray any PB Blast on it? If so watch your dick when applying the flame. If all else fails grab a long length of pipe from the hardware store. If that doesn’t work than it’s impact wrench time.

1) PB blaster. IME works much better than WD-40
2) Proper breaker bar (pretty cheap at parts stores)
3) PVC pipe that’s, at least, over a foot longer than your wrench.

If you’re using a loooong pipe as a wrench/lever-arm extender, which has worked well in my experience, maybe consider getting an impact socket * that fits your 1/2 drive breaker bar or ratchet and using it like a regular socket?
*ask me how I know...

Everybody replied w/all the reasonable diy suggestions either individually or in combination... (lube, breaker bar, breaker bar + cheater bar, heat) or take it to a shop and have them apply an air gun
If you want to diy & none of the above diy solutions works, a torque multiplier lug nut wrench should certainly work as that is precisely what this tool was designed to do, just designed to do so for removing lug nuts from large commercial vehicles.
Overkill & speciality tool you say? Uh you’re damn right on both accounts, although most of them seem rather modestly priced. Here’s a link to one on Amazon for reference

This on all the levels. Had a front axle that me and my friend didn’t think to check the threads on pre-mounting, having it all together we realize the thread on the axle is damaged and it always pulls the nut crooked... well, it’s already on so no returns, and the car kinda needed to be done now... bring out the 3/4" breaker bar and the 6 feet of pipe and get making new threads

I’ve broken or twisted a few stock tire irons trying to get wheels off at the wrecking yard, they’re sadly not that useful if stuff is on good and tight :/

Breaker bar. Do yourself a favour and get one that ratchets. I also find that impact sockets are generally made to a slightly better standard and fit better, so are less likely to round off a stuck nut. Actually, air tools are very useful...

strong breaker bar and a length of pipe. I had tires put on my SRT-4, and the idiot who did it must have been cranking down on the lugs with an impact gun for 20 minutes. trying to get the wheel off, I broke the factory lug wrench, broke a 4-way wrench, and bent another lug wrench. in the end, I had to use a breaker bar and 5' length of pipe to get them loose.

Telescoping lug wrenches for the win. I keep a cheap Walmart one in my trunk after the monkeys at the last garage I took it to way over torqued the lug nuts and I couldn’t change a tire.

1) Get a proper breaker bar.
2) get a 6'+ black iron pipe in a size that slips over the breaker bar.
3) apply the principal of leverage.
(optional if it still doesn’t budge)
4) drive forward until the breaker bar rotates around and touches the ground.
5) continue to drive forward. You will break the nut loose, break the stud, break the breaker bar, or end up with on corner of your car perched on the end of a breaker bar.
6) take a picture, regardless of outcome.
Related, when I still lived at my parents’ house, there was a 10' long piece of black-iron pipe in the garage. It was essentially my nuclear option for removing stuck fasteners. I’d slip it over the ratchet or breaker bar, walk to the other end, apply light pressure, and something would always break loose. Sometimes the nut turned. Sometime the bolt sheared. In one memorable instance, the steel panel around the weld-nut just tore out.

Get a cheater bar on the wrench, get it horizontal, and pull upwards. Don’t jump up and down on it, you can probably create more force pulling.

if you dont have a section of pipe to cheat with, and you are set on using the torque wrench, sometimes, when i dont have enough pull, or i dont have the room for a cheater, i have used car jacks, on the end of the ratchet(to do the heavy lift).
i would recommend getting a good 4 way though.
or you can shock the nut........ lift the tire so that it spins free, with the wrench on the nut, give the tire a slight turn....... clockwise, and then give the wrench a sudden yank.............

I have an amazon special 1/2" drive, 36" long breaker bar. I got impact sockets just for what I specifically need handy, wheel hub nut, lug nuts, handful of other things. PB Blaster, Seafoam and a few choice words have done wonders for me in the past. Still unsure which of those three is most effective though, I like to believe it’s my mastery of the english language because nothing can resist the charm of a well-spoken man, right?
