We wrapped up our trip to the Outer Banks with a stop at the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk. Needless to say, she is an impressive ship. Getting into a turret and exploring the deck was cool. She is well maintained as well. Sadly, the engines, lower turret and bridge were not open.

Visiting the Big Mo while I was on Oahu was a major check off of my bucket list. Love that ship :)

Since I’m a native Iowan, it’s on my bucket list to see all 4. Going to try to do an east coast and west coast trip someday.

The Wisconsin’s bow was repaired after a collision using the bow of the unfinished Kentucky (BB-66).

I always thought it was cool that you could buy a condo that had a battleship as a neighbor.

Sounds cool, but this particular one is in Norfolk of all places. Only good thing about Norfolk is you get to say Nor-fuck anytime someone asks for your address. Which was actually pretty amusing since I had some business assets out there and they would say Nor-folk meanwhile on conference calls I’d be all “yeah Nor-fuck XYZ are great”
Other common pronunciations of Nofolk include:
Naw-fuck
Nah-fick
Nor-Folk (emphasis on the L )
Nurfurk

neat.
I think the most insane job is up until the Iowa class there would be a crewman in the crawl space below the breach. His job was once the gun was elevated to put in the firing pin.

It’s like New Orleans, or N`awlins.
