Another week, another film. I’ve learned from my mistakes last week, so there will be no hints this week other than the car. And what a car it is. In contrast with the modern, working-class everyman Crown Vic that starred in last week’s film, this week the camera is pointed at a gorgeous high-end classic, a 1924 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Piccadilly Roadster.

Kinja'd!!!

As always, no cheating. While I didn’t give hints in the post, I will give out clues in the comments to those who ask the right questions.

Round 1

Round 2

EDIT: E92Matt got it, the film was City Lights (1931), generally accepted as one of Charlie Chaplin’s greatest films (though I prefer The Great Dictator) and one of the last great silent films.

The only movie I know of with a Rolls-Royce is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Pretty sure that’s not it though.

There was this film from the 60s with Ingrid Bergman and George C Scott. About the owners of yellow Rolls Royce, I caught it on TCM one night. It had a lot of different Rolls in that.

It’s a bit older than that.

Was the movie made in the same decade the car was built?

That movie is actually called The Yellow Rolls-Royce, and featured the same car throughout. This isn’t that movie.

No, but don’t let that mislead you.

That was a Phantom II.

With a Stromberg downdraft carburetor, 0-100 kilometers an hour in 12.5 seconds. (And I even like the color)

Well here I thought I was thinking of some obscure movie I didn’t even know the title of. Oh well.

I’ve only seen bits and pieces of it. Looks good, I want to see the whole thing.

Ooo, may have been off on the year then. Did it star a tramp and a blind girl?

It did indeed.

One of the best films Charlie Chaplin made imo. City Lights.

I forgot production started in 1928 and wasn’t finished until sometime in 1930.

It was finished in December of 1930, and first hit theaters in 1931.

Yep, I just looked. Several cool cars in that movie. There was a Pierce Arrow, a Cadillac 341, an Essex, a Packard, etc. It’s been a few years since I last watched it. Need to watch it again now!
