Just saw a green e39 with a huge upturned pipe that was clearly diesel swapped (diesel noise, black smoke, low rpm) drive by
Not this one obviously because I didn’t have time to take a picture. It was strange. to see/hear. EDIT: did the e39 come with diesel in the states? Sounded like an I6

I think some 530D ended up in the US, but I’m not sure how.

No diesel e39 in the usa. Last diesel 5er prior to that was the e28.

Diplomat car from somewhere in europe or brought back by a soldier?

possibly. I should say it looked NOTHING as nice as this. Pretty ratty, the big pipe was rusted to hell.

Sounds like most of the diesel e39s around here...

Proper diesel BMWs, esp sixes, don’t sound like that though so maybe some kind of truck engined conversion.

it sounded like a 6bt, but the hood was still on, so it wasn’t that.

Was it like this?

You mean did it have a 530d badge on it? no.

I was talking about the tailpipe.

The tailpipe looked like this
only one, and bigger and more strait up and down.

Maybe a loud 4bt?

could have been a 4bt

I know that’s a common swap just because of the sheer amount of engines you can find haha

A 6 what? (Googles)
Oh, a Cummins engine. A thing not so often encountered here, truck makers generally do their own because cheaper.

common “big diesel” swap here.
