Valentine's Day Surgery, Please Help..

I’m now laid up at home after a long delayed hernia surgery and, it is not comfortable, at all. Pain meds help a bit, but on a scale of 1 - 10, I’d give it about a 6, with occasional flairs to 8 or so.

My wife is being very helpful today, with plenty of love & care, but I am going to be utterly bored over the next few days while I’m laid up. I do have season 1 of the Expanse on DVD, so I hope to binge watch that a bit later. Any suggestions, interesting web sites or helpful hints to while away the hours? Daytime TV is 180 channels of drivel, it seems. Thanks, Oppo.

It’s been about over two years, with various delays do to wrong diagnosis (It’s not tumor!), to the hospital needing payment upfront to cover deductible, which delayed the appointment until money could be set aside. The last few months were pretty uncomfortable, as it was painful to stand for longer than 5 minutes or so. If it was done sooner, it would have been far better.

We have one of the top tier packages with our cable company, so I would spend the days binge-watching one of the big shows of the past couple of years. Game of Thrones comes to mind. If you don’t have cable, HBO Now has a one-month free trial. Binge what you want for four weeks, then drop it!

If it were me, I’d look for a good game with a solid campaign mode .

Thanks. I’d rather read Game of Thrones then watch it. I tried season one a few years ago, after reading the first book, and didn’t like all the really graphic violence. I’m not some pansy ass, but lately, really violent shows do not hold any appeal to me. The Walking Dead is the same thing. My wife & I have been talking about cutting the cord and doing Prime/Hulu or something like that. I think it’s time to take the plunge.

I finally watched GoT when my wife decided it was time to find out what the hubbub was all about. I’m not sure it was worth it. I still haven’t seen more than two or three episodes of the Walking Dead. I agree, a lot of it is just too violent or pornographic for my tastes. My wife said she saw more boobs in one season of GoT than she’d ever seen in her life. I think it was a little embarrassing.

We haven’t been too impressed with the selection on Prime. We have found more interesting movies/shows to watch on Netflix or the services that came with our cable - HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. All of these are available a la carte.

For me, just sitting and watching something kinda sucks. I’d much rather do something interactive.

Yeah, I’m not a big TV watcher at the moment. I’m going to give the Expanse a try. I haven’t watched a good Sci Fi series since Battlestar Galactica. When you mention campaign games, I reference my younger days, when gaming meant time spent with other guys, with miniatures, a big game board and a big rule book.

I tried out D&D when I was a kid. I just couldn’t get into it. I preferred games with a single setup and not much of a storyline. Battletech was one of my favorites. Once we moved to the country, my gaming days were over. Playing against yourself all the time gets a bit dull.

I know how much hernia surgery sucks. My advice is to get off of opioids as soon as you can stand it. That shit is highly addictive. Not that you have a problem, just sayin’.

I still have battletech game somewhere, my 14 year old son wants to learn how to play. I’ll have to spare a day or two and teach him and myself how to play it. My kids fav board game is Talisman, which I’ve had for ages.

If it’s any consolation, I had a quite significant hernia surgery about exactly a year ago, but because Europe doesn’t deal out drugs like it’s candy, I only had 2 days worth of proper meds and had to deal with it on ibuprofen and paracetamol after that. Find some new channel on youtube to binge or a quite grindy videogame to play from the couch. It’s gonna suck for a while but it is totally worth is afterwords. And hey, If I can make it 6 weeks without anyone to support me or help with the boredom, you can make it too!

Well, I only have maybe a couple more days supply of the good stuff, and I’m starting to take one Tylenol with one pain med. So far, I’ve watched several movies online from a website that may or may not be properly legal, but it came from another Oppo member, so it must be legit. I still have the first season of The Expanse to get through, as well as The Grand Tour. I’ll probably be at my office on Monday to do a little report writing, as my job isn’t very physically demanding.
