Well, it’s been a few months since the S600 was last in the shop so I guess i’m due for a fucking. I was driving to work this morning when everything went wrong. I had a fluid loss and had to limp it to the office. The car’s at the shop now but I get a feeling that I’m not getting out of this cheaply. Fuck
EDIT: Turns out it was a High pressure lines and front control arms. $3300

You should probably DD the other luxo barge.

That’s what I’ve been doing. This was the 3rd time I’ve driven it since November

Do you leave at least one thing broken as a sacrifice to the german car gods of reliability?

Visible fluid loss? When running, under pressure? Did the ABC message start white then go red?

Bite the pillow, I’m going in dry!

Yep. It was white then went red about 5s later. It was sitting low when I got to work so I assume there was some fluid loss. I had to drive it maybe 4-6 miles like that. I hate that road because there is nowhere to turn off or stop

Pretty much

Pump.

You deserve it, driving a German car to the shop (let alone one with a V12) in limp mode is one of the most anxiety inducing things I do.

I know these feels.

That’s what I’m
Thinking. What did yours run ?
![]() 02/13/2017 at 11:50 |

Actually it turned out to be a high pressure line and control arms.
![]() 02/13/2017 at 12:02 |

I had two high pressure lines AND the pump done for $5,572. You HAVE to stop going to that franchise dealer. And hope that your fluid didn’t go completely empty while you were driving before you could stop, the hydraulic fluid is the only lubrication the pump gets.

This is the last time I’m going there. I just cant find any good indies. To be fair th line is behind the engine

“Don’t look at me like that. You knew good and damned when what you were getting yourself into with me. They ain’t tell you? I ain’t one-o-yo low maintenance Corolla hoopties you used to fuck wit before me, and don’t even lie. I give what no other car can. Don’t even pretend to search Carmax for a low mileage Ls460, ‘cuz if a boring life driving around a becky from Japan is what you wanted, you wouldn’t be here.”
“$3k? Shit. You outta be glad it’s only $3k. I used to turn $30k every weekend, and I left all that behind to be with you. Be glad I don’t put a convenience fee on top of that. Considering what I do for you, $3k is bargain basement, and you better appreciate it!”

My friend who works at Audi St. Paul said EuroTech in New Brighton is good for Audi and BMW, but for Mercedes he suggested Eurosport in Wayzata or German Auto Works in St. Louis Park.

I’m going to call bullshit on the control arms. Even if they need bushings, doing that yourself at a later date will not affect the car from driving in the same manner as it did yesterday. Plus you’ll save a bunch of money.

I totally trust my mechanic. They don’t pull shit like that
![]() 02/13/2017 at 12:48 |
|
Well, I guess I didn’t ask which high pressure lines?
I’m not questioning whether of not the control arms may need a service. But unless my understanding of suspension is waaay out of whack, control arms do not have a fluid system so, while they may be in need of replacement, they are probably unrelated to your current issue.
![]() 02/13/2017 at 13:07 |
|
Oh I’m sure they’re unrelated, but I might as well them done while its in the shop.

You need to make a post about how much you’ve spent on this thing overall.

I have. I think I just cracked $10000

Let’s face it. You bought the wrong S600.

What do control arms have to do with fluid loss?
And I don’t doubt that number one bit. My B5 Passat ate its front suspension at 110k miles and that was $2400 with me sourcing the parts (i.e. no mechanic mark-up).
![]() 02/13/2017 at 14:17 |

Nothing, but apparently they needed fixing regardless.

This is why people lease new BMWs every 3 years.
For curiousity, ask your dealer if you can purchase an exteded warranty for your car, and how much it costs.

I guess it’s worth looking into
![]() 02/13/2017 at 21:31 |

Best I could find without putting much effort into it was $4500 for a 3yr warranty on a 2016 S-class.

Carchex and Car Shield are the two off the shelf warranties that come to mind, but they’ll never cover ABC.
