"Dr. Zoidberg - RIP Oppo" (thetomselleck)

“Upon buying a new Lexus in November [...]”
The very first sentence of the article. Not “his new Lexus,” or, “new to him Lexus”... Says objectively: “A NEW LEXUS.” Which is false, both literally and in application.
I guess saying, “a 15 year old Es300 aka an old fancy Camry” wouldn’t have gotten as many people to scroll down for another paragraph and the usual bombardment of advertisements.

I was kinda wondering why a “new Lexus” went straight to an independent repair shop, but never clicked through. Now I definitely won’t.

I pointed that out, too. I took me a while to read the rest of the post because I was trying to figure out why someone that could afford a new Lexus:
Took it anywhere else but the dealer.
Needed to make payments on the repair.
This isn’t the local news, it’s Jalopnik. If you don’t have the repair or the specifics on the vehicle, readers are going to ask.
In her defense, she didn’t say
which
November it was. Maybe it was the one in 2005. :)

Lol, a brand new $3,000 Lexus that is really a Camry with more dead cow bits on the inside.

Exactly. Notice over half the comments ask that same question. There was no offer of clarification and so you have a bunch of confused readers. Saying “a new Lexus” is deliberate misinformation. As is avoiding saying what the actual model is at any point in the article.

I thought it was pretty obvious from context that it was a new to him Lexus.

But you had to read the article in order to gather said context, otherwise you would have been making an assumption beforehand.
Using the word “Lexus” in the headline and “a new Lexus” in the first sentence, instead of “[2002] ES300" was a strategic move.

This is my favorite reply to that comment. I post that I’m confused, IDd the car, and then I get this - pointing out what I just pointed out.

Never change, FP. :)

It would confuse anyone calling that generation Camry a Lexus.
