As we are apt to do, the family and I did a bit of wandering around this afternoon. We drove through a few dealership lots. We found a nice blue F-150 crew cab that I liked ... it was $52-gadamn-thousand dollars... and at that price it still had a cloth bench seat.
The GMC dealer had another nice blue crew cab, a Denali ... $64-are-you-freakin-kidding-me-thousand dollars.
They also had a nice blue ‘14 crew cab Sierra with 50k miles on it for $29,500. We came to the conclusion that despite our misgivings about late-model used vehicles, whenever we do replace my truck, we’ll probably have to buy a used one.
I also saw this Flex at the GMC dealer, what in the hell????
Now, prepare your eye-bleach, because we saw a Nissan Cross-Cabriolet today. If I had to see it, so do you

Was the Ferd new? Did you talk price? It’s my understanding that you can get $10-15k off of the $50k+ ones once you start talking price with a salesman.

I’m gonna give the Cabriolet driver some slack on this one. If that silver Honda was already there, they probably just centered themselves in the space left so their passenger could get out. I’ve had to do that many times.

Lol, welcome to my life.
Look into some F-150s with the 3.5 or 2.7 Ecopoop. They’re amazingly fast and turbo noises throw people off.

It was new, but I didn’t talk numbers because I’m not a serious buyer right now. Even with a $10k discount I don’t see being able to afford it. I’ll certainly try when the time comes, but I’m not optimistic.

the F-150 option matrix is so convoluted I’m fully ready to believe you can option an XL with vinyl seats and no carpet up to $50k.

I wouldn’t doubt it for a minute. I actually like cloth bench seats, but it I’m gonna pay $52k for anything I except heated and cooled leather and a console with like nine cup holders.
And maybe a built in urinal or something.

That one had a 3.5 ecopoop, which imo is the only motor to get on those.

Yeah full size tucks have gotten pretty expensive. That being said, they can still be a good buy if you don’t plan to keep them for more than 7 years or so, because high resale and also because lower trims come with so much more kit than they used to - XLT’s can now be had with power everything, a decent infotainment system, etc. This 2.7 EcoBoost crew cab at $35k discounted from $45k is all the truck most people will every need - anything else is luxury. And it will probably still sell for $20k+ that you could put towards a new one once it hits 100k.

Trucks do hold their value amazingly well. My 2wd crew cab Sierra is 11 years old and has 117k miles on it, and I could still get about 40% of what I paid for it back. That said, I paid under $22k for it out the door, brand new.

They’re honestly the future of the V8. Much smoother, more advanced and they don’t sound half bad. Also, TONS of aftermarket performance options for them.
I originally was skeptical of the Ecopoop, because I’m biased towards V8 engines for whatever reason. But when I actually looked into it, I found that the Ecopoops are better in nearly every category.

We got a 2014 Denali HD for $53k out the door in late 2013 so I’m sure you can find better. We had actually bought a loaded FX4 F150 for the mid 40s I believe but we had 3 days to try it out and it didn’t do that great of a job pulling the trailer so we had to get the 2500.
You can definitely get a lot better than sticker when you are ready.

Yeah, I’ve heard that. I actually went to a Titan test drive event nearby this fall. It was set up for dealer education, but they opened it to the public on the weekends. They let the public drive, and I got to hammer a couple of them pretty hard. The body structure was nice and solid, and I was impressed by their brakes. I went there not really interested int he Titan at all, but left there willing to consider one.
