A local FIAT dealer is giving away cheap smartwatches if you bring in their flyer. I was thinking about testing a 500 Abarth anyway, so why not get a free gadget at the same time. I know the big contest with 5 fabulous prizes is a scam, but will they really give me the smartwatch?
Years ago I remember my dad going for a test drive; the dealer was offering a nice bottle of wine for stopping by, but not surprisingly the seemed to run out when he asked for his...
Have things changed in the last few decades, or can I expect them to run out of stock when I ask for my watch? (Lots more in the manager’s office, but it’s locked and he’s not here today, etc., so on an so forth...)

Check the fine print. It’s usually something like:
Odds of winning X prize 1:499997
Odds of winning Y price 1:499997
Odds of winning Z prize: 1:499997
Odds of winning $5 walmart giftcard: 499997:1
Though I almost always go in. I got 2 movie tickets and a steak dinner for 2 at Texas roadhouse recently...AND they let me drive cars I wanted to drive.

Not a scam, but the number of watches they have will be limited. The idea is they give a few away, then just tell everyone else “sorry, we’ve run out of free stuff, but you can still look our cars anyway”, in the hopes of getting a few easy sales. The fine print on the flyer will probably say something like ‘while stocks last’
Quite a clever idea, actually.

I got a $100 Visa gift card for test driving the 2015 Mustang when it came out. That wasn’t a dealership thing though, that was straight from Ford. Still I got paid to test drive a guard green EcoBoost!

Last year at a nice mall in Southlake, a nicer neighborhood in the Dallas-Fort worth area, Lincoln sponsored a ride & drive event that gave you a $50 Visa gift card to driver and passenger. Paid for my wife and I’s date that night. Not sure about dealer promos though.
