More terrifying than having it close on you at 25mph. The Niva is not built for this.
Even more so without fifth gear. But I have a trophy and that makes up for it all.
I just stopped for gas in Watertown and some kid in a Topaz(?) shouted “Nice Niva” out the window. That helps too.

Pffft. 87 mph is a lazy Sunday afternoon cruise here in Texas. :P

Even without a 5th gear your car is doing fewer revs than my Mini.

So...does it have a 5th gear that doesn’t work, or just no fifth gear? :P

That’s only 55mph in the trophy pic.

It’s also about 400rpm off redline in the Niva.

So it just pops out of gear constantly? :P

I got it to stick for almost ten seconds somewhere between St. Louis and Kansas City last night, but pretty much yeah. I try it every once in a while out of boredom.

sometimes those cars get so that they “wear in”. if the last owner just lazily rested their arm on it going down the road, YOU might just have to GET INTO the habit of resting your arm on it while you putter down the road........

Brand new trans that started puking oil out the input seal. No hands were rested, something’s borked.

I wish people would drive that fast. So many people here to have zero interest in accelerating up to the speed limit. Even out in the country it feels like there are always randomly people going 20 under the speed limit for no reason.

That is one of the reasons I needed a 6MT Outback over a 5MT Crosstrek. I make the drive from Rapid City to East River or Central MN several times a year.
