It has a rare manual, which is a plus.

Price seems about right to me... Manual 850i are rare as fuck, let alone running ones.

I was working as a valet at some restaurant back in the day. One of these pulled into a parking lot. It was a manual. Driver asks me if I know how to drive a manual. I look him in the eyes and say - “I’ll learn”. Look on his face was priceless.

i actually test drove this car over the summer when it was offered for sale on craigslist by a small race shop/dealer in NJ. they were asking 15k or 16k. its in very good shape mechanically, but leaves a bunch to be desired cosmetically. various dings and nicks around the body (nothing major) and the interior needs a refresh (headliner and seat leather need re-doing).
i think they’re a bit optimistic at 18.9k. i’ve watched cars languish for 12 months in the 18-25k range. cars the owners think are special, but just are not. i think its a solid 14-16k car. just not my color preferences.

I would offer $11k

its just a touch high. same car was for sale over the summer for 15k (maybe as low as 13k if memory serves).
owners are a bit ambitious in their asking prices for e31s generally, as this is a very, very, very small market. those selling an m70 early car with odd colors and a 4 speed, even with low miles, expecting to get more than 15 are deluding themselves.

Especially when I saw it parked next to the 928.

i appreciate your story :) but these are actually not bad cars to learn on.
you basically need zero throttle. just slowly get off the clutch and the torque will pull it away. its a good way to learn what to feel for without being too confused by the gas and whatnot.

Not sure if you’ve seen what’s been going on with old BMW prices, but that price ain’t too far off, even with the car’s issues.

I was not aware of this. Still the price is a little outrageous.

The price is a little high, but I’ve never seen a manual one for sale. That seems more like a “put it up and see what happens” price. I could see it selling for around $16k.

As a Jag owner, I feel like I’m an expert on sagging headliners, but jeez, I didn’t even know sunroof headliners could do that.

are you in eastern PA? i’m always driving around between NYC and phila, including bucks county a bunch. if you ever see one of those cars, flag me down!
and believe it or not, i was planning on stopping by that exact dealer to get a look at a different car this weekend.

Hideous color and I hate that color interior too. My neighbor has a black V8, it’s always covered not sure if it’s a manual.
