With the one I already have, the answer so far has been “literally everything.” But that’s a sacrifice worth making.

it would probably be less painful to just starting cutting yourself.
I wouldn;t mind having my Allroad back. (given the suspension works)

These really aren’t too bad. That 12v v6 is hard to kill (make sure the timing belt and water pump are OK), the transmissions are OK if they’ve been taken care of, the suspension is simple, and they’re comfortable. Interior electricals like the instrument cluster and window switches don’t age well, but won’t stop the car. You could do worse for the money.

Had a white 1996 FWD, sold to FIL which he still owns. Had some sort of cooling system failure under his watch but other than that only needed (frequent) maintenance. Mileage now is about 200K I believe

When I was too tiny to remember it much, my dad had a white ‘92 Quattro. Back then it was still called the 100.

Agreed, a decent car costs a $1000 a year. This car costs throw away money. Chances are whoever owned it maintained it, so unless there is a ticking time bomb in the drive train, it’s fine and a worthwhile experience. One warning is their “needs alignment” means “can’t align it” and chances are bushings or ball joint worn out.
Who cares, if you like it, align it with a string and drive it for three years and tell us a story.

OOOOOO and AAAAAAAH! A few of my ACNA club friends from C-bus have had those in the S6 form. Love that style. The older 2.8 isn’t quick but if you know the cars its a tank. Have seen some of those engines with near 300k miles.
