KINJA ROTATED IT!!!!

Caught this on my way home last night. ALL LICENSE PLATES IN QUEBEC ARE GOVERNMENT ISSUED. That being said, they hand out PEE. We have no options for custom plates at this time in Quebec.

I’m assuming this slipped by as the government as they operate in French and have very few English staffers if any. Anyways, I had a good laugh at this.

Non, pas de tout. Not at all haha, however, since we’re in Quebec most people would understand as it falls under Franglais (french-english combination)

no vanity plates here in quebec.

when you buy a car at the dealer, they have a box full of plates, and if you are nice with them they let you chose from the box which one you want

the dealers have sequential plates. example: that Hyundai dealers next plate would be 907 PEF, 907 PEG and so on.

that being said we are going to get vanity plates somewhere in the next 2 years.

Meh, I believe in New York the first 3 characters are given out in sequential order... had a good laugh when the DMV got up to FAP-XXXX.

Also, Montreal is awesome.

That’s one thing that still amazes me, you’d think the government would love to issue vanity plates as yet another form of tax. God knows the Quebec government excels at taxing everything

I know, I found it really odd. Heck, I feel like they’re the people who’d force a front plate and make you pay double just because they introduced it. It’s very bizarre.... even my income here costs me nearly 10k more in taxes.

Lived in Montreal for 48 years. moved to the U.S. seven years ago. Quebec is the only place I’ve seen where you have:

- Federal tax

- Provincial tax

- damned near 15% sales tax

- sin taxes (cigs $13/pack, alcohol taxed equally high)

- property tax

- “welcome tax” when you move to a different home

- school tax ($1000/year for what?)

- license plate tax (to be fair most of it goes to no-fault insurance)

- 10 cents per liter gas tax to maintain the roads on the island of Montreal

and I’m probably missing a few.

Last I checked, all license plates everywhere were government issued.

did they issue ‘FUC’ or ‘FUK’?

But most places allow you the option to create your own plates which is now allowed here.

I’m actually keeping my eyes peeled as I suspect it’s likely. I lived here for nearly 5 years prior and never noticed this phenomenon but in my morning commute I’ve seen countless ‘word’ plates haha.

The three things I will give Quebec, thanks to those taxes are:

1) Cheap no fault insurance
2) Health covered by government both for accidents and up to 60% on prescriptions
3) The roads are almost always salted and cleared immediately. In Toronto I often had to wait a week to see some pretty major roads cleared.

I make my own smoked meat, and yes it’s really good. I also make my own Poutine. You cannot find a decent bagel anywhere in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, so I drive two hours to Vancouver B.C. every so often and buy lots of Montreal style bagels there.
