If they made a wagon variant we would be interested but as is...nope! Sedans are dying, if you want to keep making small cars you need to make hatchbacks and wagons, otherwise just sell crossovers

For my part I want to see a Malibu Maxx again.

Specifically in SS trim.

Such a good idea so terribly executed.

I mean there is a Cruze hatchback, just no true wagon.

From firsthand experience, it was actually quite well done (sticking with the SS).

It handled beautifully, was fairly quick (high 6's 0-60 in 2006), looked good with the “plastiluminium” that replaced the “plastichrome”, the interior was a generally nice place to be, the instrumentation was very nice, as were the seats—and that sliding rear bench. Mmmm. Nice touch. Oh, and the split rear sunroof. In a Chevy. Malibu. In 2006. Proper, solid rear luggage shelf, repositionable height, fuzzy on one side and hard plastic on the other so it could be used as a table of sorts.

The only complaints I can think of offhand are:

- Rear sunroof shades. Nice touch, easily broken though. The retractor spring had a habit of slipping off.

- Dome light switch. It wobbled around in its track so much it bound and you couldn’t move it.

- Chrome bezel around the shifter never locked in properly. It wouldn’t fall out, but you could squish it around a lot.

- GM FWD 4-speed auto.

Number one reason why I wont buy one. Cant get the top trim with a manual. Also the paltry 138hp. It deserves an SS package with 260HP

I’m not surprised, there’s an industrial lot full of these in my city.

GM Europe did the same at the time with the Signum, a hatchback based on their Vectra C (Saturn Auris?) line of sedans, a more traditional hatchback (below) and wagons. For some weird reason it was equipped and priced to slot ABOVE the other Vectra versions. Rare then, even rarer now.

A good friend of mine has one. Not a great interior, but it’s been reliable, and it’s shockingly roomy.

shockingly roomy im okay with. They style was the major letdown, outside and in.

That sounds like every major product launch GM had from 1970 onward.

Yeah, it was not a looker. It’s too bad they didn’t do a Maxx version of the far superior ‘08-’12 Malibu.

Is this the hatch and sedan or just the sedan. I like the hatch, extremely well packaged., but the sedan is silly when there’s the hatch right beside it.

They’re idling Lordstown, which is just the sedan. Hatches come from Mexico.

That’s what I thought, many people in the market for a compact are starting to become more interested in the hatch than a sedan. It’s hard to argue the extra space, especially since many people are getting used to the space of crossovers.

More so the shape of the car, which has always been a “complaint”. It’s just a crossover that isn’t lifted.
