I’m surprised Kotaku didn’t pick this up, but they’re too busy posting “Best Of 2017" stories.

Just watched the two press videos.
I hope police are tracing back these ‘swatting’ calls and taking them very seriously in pursuing convictions.
Also trigger happy cops added to this situation making it fatal.

I thought ‘Murica (let alone the world) was done with that prank?
Minimum 25 to Life for the asshat that called this in, IMO.

I’ve been reading horror stories of people having Swat show up at their homes, handcuffing them in front of their children, and the cops just go “welp, looks like it was just a prank, nothing we can do, ladeedadeeda”.

* for the police that murdered someone in cold blood for walking up to the door
Maybe the solution to the entirety of America having the power to send rabid bears to arbitrary addresses isn’t to destroy everyone’s phones, but to do something about the bears?
It really doesn’t matter what the penalty is because people can spoof numbers, call from other phones, or simply not care. If you get a senator (

) murdered by the police from a simple phone call, that saves a hell of a lot of hassle (and opportunities to stop it) if you want them dead and don’t care about the consequences.

Agreed, at the end of the day, the person who pulls the trigger is responsible. If you have 7+ years experience in law enforcement, you should be held to a higher standard for use of your firearm.

Sounds like the cop needs hung out to dry. How is it police near where I lived manage not to pull the trigger on a guy when he walks out of his house with a shotgun shortly after attempting to murder another officer by shooting him in the head yet this guy pulls the trigger on a guy after an unverified report?
