The Mirage doesn’t have a locking steering column because Mitsubishi knows most will be repo’d when the owners don’t make their payments, and it’ll make it easier to tow.
All the other “quirks”, like the fog light switch? LOL.
Edit: At 8:45 Doug rants about exposed fastenersssssssssssssss

The ‘32 Ford had a locking steering column. It is not a new feature, Mitsubishi.
Of course Ford then spent a lot of the following forty years without one because muh dashboard styling, but even so.

I get the vibe that you dislike Doug.
But this isn’t one of his best videos tbh.

Too bad you can’t get it in pink anymore, and too bad no sunroof available. Also, I still think it’s overpriced. MSRP should start around $8000, considering it’s not much more than that in Europe, where their taxes and shit are much higher than ours.
The base price in Canada is a little over $10k. Down here, it’s $13k, almost $3000 more! That’s also because they get the Micra that we don’t.
If they made a VR4 with like 150 hp turbo for like $16k, that would be awesome as fuck

He’s alright. I find his videos quirky, and full of features.

WHY does a car this cheap even have electronic HVAC control? Is it really cheaper than having 3 simple knobs?

Probably a parts bin special from another model

Someone should get that man a thesaurus. Or at least send him some synonyms for “quirk”.

Except for the engine, he could do an identical review of our Pontiac Vibe. This is what I expect basic economy cars to be like.

The only thing that stood out to me was the fog light switch and the electronic climate control.... two things that seemed out of place in such a cheap car.

I suppose I do have actual fog lights tied to my fog light switch...

It starts at £12,000 in the UK. There’s many much better cars cheaper than it- Up, C1 are both around £9000 and it’s around the same price as a Swift which is a much better car a size up from it. If you really want a cheap new car it’s twice the price of a Hair Shirt edition Sandero but I wouldn’t really recommend that.
Mostly Mitsubishi sell pickups and the tax dodging Outlander, and neither would really be missed.

And usually rear fog lamps are reserved for European market cars, or high end Euro cars sold here.

TBQH, I think he unfairly savaged this car, and this is as someone who thinks it’s a poorly-suited car to the US market.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I love that the HVAC beeps really do sound like a microwave. You know Mitsubishi makes microwaves, maybe the borrowed that part too.

Too bad Suzuki stopped selling the Swift here after 2001 :(
Because if they kept selling it here, they’d still be in business here! (rebadged Daewoos count)
But regardless, yeah, the Mirage is overpriced

Duh... That plastic thingy under the seat is a rear heat duct. These cars aren’t really that bad and will only get better with age as they get even cheaper. It will only be a used set of wheels and tires away from being a great go cart.

One of our neighbors down the street got one of those in that magenta/purple color for their teen daughter - took about a month before she bashed it into a curb, (which I believe totaled it because it mysteriously has no longer been around since it was towed back to their driveway...)

MINIs also don’t have locking steering. Because of the push button start maybe?

I am surprised to hear that there is such a thing as a car without a steering wheel lock. Even the RallyMetro has one of those.
