No matter the weather, no matter the day, no matter the time, no matter the car - there’s no other feeling like an empty road on the outskirts of town.

Preach! For years I was guilty of spending way too much time watching people have car fun on Youtube instead of getting out there and chasing those thrills IRL.

Agreed. I got my back roads I like to travel down even in my ‘06 Tucson. I can wait to try them in a more fun car.

One of my favorite driving experiences though is a normally crowded road, completely devoid of other drivers and activity. Especially if it’s in a kind of tight urban area and a loud exhaust on the car. Just being able to rip it around in the middle of the night and no traffic around and nowhere that you need to be.

But yeah empty road somewhere is always fun too as long as it has turns to enjoy. I particularly enjoyed this one backroad in Arkansas that had some really nice sweepers but was still a really fast road to nowhere. It was wide open and just egged me on in the Miata to go about 75-80 the whole way in 4th gear just cruising along and feeling like it’s a paradise. Sure I’ve driven more technical and more exciting roads but for some reason at that time in that place, it was just pure bliss.

One of my favorite parts of delivering pizzas was how empty the roads got after midnight. Driving through town with little to no traffic is satisfying in a way I can’t explain.

3am is the perfect time. Late enough that there REALLY isnt anyone on the road and still early enough that not even crazy early birds are out yet. That window between 3-4 is surely the eeriest in even the most busy of areas like NYC or LA.
