COTA?

Birmingham got dumped on, it’s almost all still here, but with a nice hard icy crust. So strange this early in the year. Half the trees are still leaved. Leafed?

Driving home thursday was a mess. Turns out the LED headlights on a Miata just collect snow and ice and get dimmer and dimmer while you drive. I had to hope that people would blast past me and splash me with water to knock the crust off the lights

The one day every 10-15 years when you suddenly realize why all those European cars have headlight washers...

Either it never snows in Japan, or the Japanese have the good sense to not drive a Miata in the snow.

If history is a guide, I will never have to worry about this again in this car, because when does it snow in Austin? Last snow I remember was a decade ago, and it ruined my sister in law’s outdoor wedding because who thinks it’s going to snow in Austin in April?

Snowed in Austin in 2014.

The big problem is the LEDs. While they’re better in most ways, they produce far less heat and thus can’t melt snow off themselves.

Did it snow? I thought it just iced a bit. I remember that the road crews were better prepared and had sprayed 45/130 toll road with the anti-ice goo before it moved in.

I knew the heat thing. I recall seeing that it’s been a past problem w/ traffic signals in the northern climes.

Definitely snowed where I was. Not a ton of accumulation, but there was snow on the ground:

Neat picture. Glad you survived the blizzard of 2017. How was that trail of lights thing out at COTA? We thought about taking the kids, but my wife heard through the grapevine that it was kind of lame.

I did indeed survive, but driving home during the heaviest snowfall kinda sucked.

Also, Winter Wonderland at COTA is kinda weaksauce. The grapevine is accurate.

So not worth $16? Too bad.
