When you tell your boss you don’t feel well they readily agree that you look like a ghost and should probably go home.
Thank you, Polish ancestry!

Another benefit of Polish/Eastern European heritage? The entire pig is edible to you.
THE ENTIRE PIG.

I’ve had this.
“Wow, you look really pale, are you feeling OK?”
Yeah, I feel great, I’m just as white as Casper that’s all.

Yep, add pigment spots to the mix and youve got a winner in the ‘I dont feel so good’ department.

And the entire cabbage.
And the entire potato.

I like cabbage.

Combine the paleness with my natural state of sleep deprivation and I have to dodge those questions all day.

one of the nice things about living/working close to H-Town is being able to shop here:
their kiebasa krajana is to die for, and I especially like their bigos and barszcz czerwony. I haven’t tried any of their salceson yet.

ain’t all it’s cracked up to be; on the downside there’s the whole “burst into flames stepping outside on a hot day” thing.

You are definitely Polish.

I grew up in a predominantly Polish mill town and lived right down the road from a Polish bakery. I could buy fresh packzi and chrusciki whenever I wanted. It was the best.

I am so looking forward to Wigilia this year.

well yeah, the four major Polish food groups are 1) pork, 2) cabbage, 3) dough, and 4) potato.
I would cut a fool for a good plate of gobki.

Chrusciki is tough to make at home well. Has to be thin and flaky, none of this wide-as-a-belt stuff.

Mmm... cabbage rolls. Basically Polish Haggis.
And so you know I’m not just being a jerk: I have filled and crimped literally thousands of pierogi over the years (it is my job when we make them: mom rolls the dough; my sister cuts rounds and puts them in front of me; and I fill, wet the edge, and crimp).

Okay, maybe not Polish , but you have clearly been exposed to the food from a young age.
It’s still a foreign food group to me, in spite of family connections. I’m more Mexican than anything culturally, but my genetics are a different story. I’m painfully pale, unable to spend any real amount of time in the sun without getting burned.

On the flip side you get a lot of people telling you you look like shit. Particularly if you come to work late and they suspect hangover or tiredness.
