My dad used to own one. It was the car I got to use when I was home from college since my dad preferred driving the Explorer. It was hot garbage, the transmission started to give out at about 115k and it was traded in on a 2012 Hyundai Sonata.

There definitely seems to be an irrational love of these out there. I have no idea why.

My brother had a ’98 GS. It was not taken very good care of by its previous owners, so that didn’t leave a very good first impression on me.
“Hot pile of garbage?” Well, this one actually caught fire, so maybe that’s a fair assessment after all...

W-Body cars can be great.
My Grand Prix was an amazing road trip car. Got over 35mpg highway going 85mph.
Wasn’t good for much else though.

I have nothing but vaguely positive things to say about the ‘97 LeSabre I owned... It handled like a wet noodle and was about as exciting as room temperature cottage cheese, but was as reliable as dirt, quite comfortable, reasonably fuel efficient, had a surprisingly good stereo (concert sound 3(?)) aand was cheap as fuck to repair when it finally did break. Interestingly a blown trans is what killed it, but not until 325k miles, and the PO had used it to tow a pop-up camper, so it did not have an easy life.

That’s about the only positive thing about my dad’s regal. It did shine on the highway.

You’re right, it is fantastic. Fantastic at being terrible.

I didn’t have to pay to maintain it, but I assume it’s way cheaper than an M3.

They’re shit. I have a very bad taste in my mouth after the two early GM products my parents owned when I was a teenager. The only thing they are good at is being cheap.

My Buick didn’t last past 86k. Riviera though.

For the same reason people like eating lutefisk. And watching re-runs of Rosanne.
I have no idea either.

I’m convinced GM’s entire road testing/tuning for 30 years was to put the car on cruise control at 70mph on a long, flat stretch of highway. “Yup, that’ll do.”

You have some insider knowledge or something?

As long as you don’t maintain it, that 4T60/65 will last forever
W-Bodies are excellent examples of a GM product will run poorly longer than others will run at all

Never found out, my dad got rid of that vile thing before it got too bad.

My friend has a Regal GS that body style. Super funny to drive but faster in a straight line and from a dig than any BMW I’ve owned.
Update the suspension and a sticky set a tires and it’ll lol all the way home from an autocross meet

Can confirm. They weren’t even good cars when they were new. A friend of mine had one that far and away holds of the record for most illuminated dash warnings I’ve ever seen on a car. It was like a Christmas display every time you started the car and it somehow still ran.

My dad’s ate coolant. I feel like everyday the fucking low coolant light came on, so I’d fill the motherfucker back up.
