Fell off a ladder. Or more precisely, had a ladder collapse under me and fell while tangled up in it.
Injury count: one very stiff, swollen purple wrist. One slightly hyperextended knee. One knee with increasing pain along the outside edge. Numerous scrapes. Bruised pride.
I was stepping off of a roof onto my ladder and the feet slid out. One of my legs went through the ladder rungs and I followed it down to the ground, landing with most of my weight on my ass, fortunately. There was zero panic, just a strange calm. “well, here I am. I’m falling. Stay loose.” that followed by a landing that my mind can’t seem to recreate. Funny. Solid couple minutes laying on the ground in the rain. No shock, the wind wasn’t knocked out of me like I’ve seen with other accidents, it was all strangely detached. Finished the home up with the help of my partner (he did most of it) and called my next job to reschedule for next week. Pain came near the end of the job, which was about an hour after the fall. Thankfully both myself and the ladder avoided the nearby car.
The worst part is that this is a job I’ve done for years, and every time I’ve told myself “you need to stop coming here.” there are numerous issues that make this an unsafe job site that I’ve pointed out to the homeowner, and every time I’ve been told that they’d take care of it next time. That hasn’t happened. So... I’ve raised the prices. Each year, prices have gone up, and I’ve used that to justify doing work that I know is unsafe. Paying the price for that now, but I’m glad it was me and not one of my guys.
So, what’s the consensus medical oppos? Ice?Heat? Amputation? We’re driving back to base where I’ll grab my car and drive home (Miata is going to feel cramped today), and the rest of the day will be spent resting. Certainly not the worst thing in the world. I would imagine in a week or so I’ll be good as new. Thursday through sunday was already work free, and I may even stay home tomorrow. Call it a week-long staycation!

Sucks man...keep swollen bits iced and try not to do to much while it heals. Go to a doctor if it doesn’t seem to be getting any better after a couple days.

Ouch, hopefully that wrist isn’t too smashed up. I’ve snapped mine and it isn’t fun.
I did something similar over the weekend, but to a lesser extent. I was building what’s called an entablature (basically the horizontal beam that porch columns support) and I was standing on the arm of my adirondack chair. Next thing I know, I am laying under the chair flat on my ass. Second time this has happened on this project (first time was indoors, just standing on a chair to reach the ceiling). Lesson not learned: don’t use chairs instead of ladders. Luckily I’ve only paid with some bruising. I’ll try not to do it again.

Take it easy, get to the Dr. hope it’s not too bad.
Big nope here, I don’t mess with ladders;
My brother in law fell off his ladder onto the driveway 10 years ago now, shattered his heel, elbow, and broke a wrist- ended up lucky to be able to walk and play a bit of sports but every day he ends up in pain.

Well, you landed on your ass.... so yeah... amputation of ass.
Walk it off. You’ll be alright. How do I know you ask? Simple - you’re alright now. little bruised but alright.
Few days off here upon us. Rest. Booze. Medicine... hopefully not together or not close together. You still want your liver. But you’ll be alright
In the future, have someone hold the ladder while you go up or down. At the very least, someone will look at it and say - let me adjust it.

I’d get the wrist looked at by a professional, and maybe the knee if it doesn’t feel stable after a day or two. Otherwise, ice and elevate the swollen bits. I prescribe Thanksgiving overeating—got to give the body fuel to heal, right?

hard to say, but for the most part treat it like a sports injury. Ice it on and off, stretch a lot, etc. If it becomes immobile or extra swollen or still really hurts after 24 hrs don’t tough it out, go to the dr/er/whatever. There could be a fracture/minor break you haven’t discovered yet. Even though there isn’t _much_ you can do about it, you at least know to treat a break differently than a sprain.

I’m glad you’re okay! It could have been so much worse. Ice it regularly and take ibuprofen or naproxen for the swelling and for pain. If you have any sharp pain on movement or grinding, go to the doctor (maybe go anyway to be safe if your insurance supports it).
And up your prices for this house. A lot.

Risk of fracture seems... high. Probably x-ray time. Pain delay was likely due to adrenaline and other brain drugs.

Yikes! Ouch. Sorry to hear that.
Take it from a guy who just had a car wreck (this guy) - don’t assume it isn’t too bad and ignore pain.
I 2nd to see a doc if pain continues. Cracked bones and sprained ligaments need to be found/treated asap.

Injuries like that generally should be treated with RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. If you’re not feeling better in a couple days, or things get significantly worse over a few hours or the next day then it’s time for professional help.

I’d second the X-ray suggestions. Perception of pain isn’t always a good indicator and it can make things much worse if you wait a week and then decide to check (do as I say, not as I do).

Ouch. Glad you are mostly together.
Medical advice
1 - See a professional(which I am not) and get real care.
2 - For strains follow the RICE method
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
This will likely apply to knee and maybe wrist.
Wrist is maybe broken? so don’t move it too much and please get it checked.
Disinfect scrapes and apply antiseptic, then cover with bandage.
Take ibuprofen to help reduce swelling and pain.

Not to worried about the wrist, I still have fairly good range of motion and nothing that screams bone damage to me. RICE is good advice, thank you. Seeking professionals if things don’t improve quickly

I think the wrist should heal up fine. I’ve put them through enough in various jobs and hobbies to know what they can handle. Knee will be looked at if things don’t improve soon. Thank God for a short, light clutch

Yah I’m ok just pain from seat belt grabbing me. Air bags did their job well too.
Did a dumb by missing a stop sign on a dark road. T-boned a brand new 4 runner. It had side airbags and everybody ok.
One less g35 sedan on the road now :( . Gonna get my 07 camry with a blown clutch back on the road.

Christmas lights. The amount of money dedicated light companies charge is absolutely insane. I figured I could go in, do 75% of the work quality-wise for 25% of the cost and still end up making more per hour than usual. This job just happened to be one of the few Christmas light jobs I’ve already been doing for awhile.
Examples: I saw a quote to cover a 25ft tree in lights. $3200.
Another quote to do along the gutters of a average home, JUST in the front. Top level and lower level. $1400

Ill miss it for sure. But hey it was only an automatic.
I had a lot of fun with it and now get why there is a thing for this platform. The suspension was totally solid and unflappable and steering was great. Even the stability control didn’t get in the way when it kicked in just kept you from killing yourself lol.
