Im looking forward to joining the STi fun tomorrow! And the ridiculous number of these I will see when I go up to Mammoth for skiing. I hate being part of that crowd but its okay, I will be having fun regardless. If I cared about ‘image’ I wouldnt be driving a Miata with more primer than paint.

I did that on my old mini. Car looked crappy with it in the center, didn’t want to drill the bumper. They sell tow hook mount kits for cheap.

In my first job after college, I finally decided I could buy a car for myself. I really, really wanted this:

They are fantastic cars. I’ve driven lots of Subarus and I love them for all they are, including their shitty interiors and rough highway manners. Because that burble and the overall fun factor (especially in gravel or snow) is well worth it.

I researched them, and started searching for one, but then, the inevitable happened. A son of an employee (it was a small business) bought this exact car. He was, you guessed it, a flat-brimmed, baggy-pants, chain-smoking douchenozzle of a kid (this is pre-vape), who of course installed a horrible exhaust on his, lowered it, and drove it like, well, like a douche.

I bought a Suburban instead.

I think they get a bad rep because they’re frequently driven by wannabe-Ken Block vapebros.

Here in Wisconsin they actually make a lot of sense and they seem to be driven by more regular car nerd types.

A lot of the hate has to do with the reputation they have for being extremely reliable cars causing hilariously over-inflated prices on the used market. They have problems just like any other car, and some of them have some pretty major issues if driven as intended. Nothing wrong with that if they are cheap, but they aren’t.

Also white sunglasses vape stance culture doesn’t help. It’s a problem with all makes, but Subies attract a lot of it.

You can find affordable ones, it’s just difficult. I’m picking up an ‘06 tomorrow for 13.5k. Which I guess is still a good chunk of money but at least it’s not 20k+ for an 11 year old car

Yuck! That’s about what it looks like if I take the highway home, hence why I’ve been Canyon carving in the dark. Even though one of my headlights isn’t working right and I really need to fix my brake issue. But I’ll have some time to do that now with two cars.

yep, I thought that was BS until I put my plates on in the stock position and oil temps bumped up 3-5 degrees across the board. I skipped the side mount but ended up getting one of those adjustable center mount brackets and elevated the plate up about 3 inches out of the airflow.
