Still using WMC because I haven’t had the time or energy to try anything else at the moment. One thing I did discover is that you can hit fast forward when a program is playing and it will speed it up, probably 1.5x normal, but still have sound. I did add a 4-tuner card a week or two ago so there’s plenty of stuff to watch (before it gets deleted), so speeding up the process certainly helps get through it.
I did notice whilst speaking to some of my blind customers that they tended to play audio recordings faster than normal, and I assume that they can process audio information quicker since their brains aren’t busy processing visual information as well. I’ve also noticed that I am doing things a bit faster because of the faster audio, although sitting here waiting for a program on 8 DVDs to install can’t be sped up by faster audio...

IIRC VLC player can do that as well.
