In no particular order:

Freakonomics, Planet money, This American Life, Embedded, Ear Hustle, Bad Christian Podcast, break it down with matt carter, lehto’s law, more perfect, radiolab, art of charm, up first, crimetown (no new ones but awesome), common sense with Dan Carlin, criminal, Dirty John (done now), Homecoming (2 seasons), Labeled Tooth and Nail Podcast, Invisibilia, Reply All, StartUp, Mogul

And, damn, I didn’t realize how many podcasts I listen to. These are the ones I am 100% caught up on and listen to the new ones as they come out.

Podcasts are life.

Common Sense w/ Dan Carlin

Hardcore History w/ Dan Carlin (and he mentioned starting up a third one soon)

Duncan Trussell Family Hour

Guys We Fucked

Jack Of All Nerds (my friend is the host of this one, it’s a really good show)

LifeAfter (a short-run fiction story, REALLY damn good)

Jocko Podcast

Mysterious Universe

Radiolab

Rooster Teeth Podcast

S-Town (another short-lived episodic, also really good, but totally a non-fiction documentary of weird shit going down in The South)

Tangentially Speaking w/ Dr. Chris Ryan

Joe Rogan Experience (because of course)

Tim Ferriss Show

I listen to many others, but these are probably the most universally appealing of the bunch.

only three right now:

1) Drew & Mike Podcast, from the guys who used to do a popular morning radio show in Detroit (daily)

2) The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe (when released)

3) Lehto’s Law (weekly)

that’s it. I haven’t found a car-related one yet I care for. I tried The Smoking Tire, and as much as I give Matt Farah “car guy” cred I just got tired of hearing him blubber about living in Southern California all of the time.

I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts, but I do subscribe to the Adam Ruins Everything one, and try to catch an episode of Untitled Car Show every now and then. I haven’t seen Steve around here much lately, but I do also follow Lehto’s Law on YouTube.

I had such a hard time believing S-Town was non-fiction. Very well done.

I feel like, being friends with Dan Carlin would involve using a cattle prod to get him out of the house sometimes.

What app do you use to listen to UCS?

I typically use Stitcher for podcasts that aren’t available through NPR because it’s the easiest to use in my car. I tried to listen to UCS through it and the audio was so terrible I had to turn it off after a couple minutes.

I’m hoping this issue would be unique to stitcher.

Podcast addict. Works great!

The only issue I have with UCS is bass level. Every other podcast is clear and I can listen to it at a normal volume and bass setting. If I try that with UCS Ike’s voice is super deep and will overpower the guests making me ride the volume knob. I just turn the bass all the way down on my radio and that seems to be a workaround.

I may give adjusting the bass a try because the problem seems to be purely with his voice. I set my stereo into the “talk radio” setting for podcasts. Maybe a simple adjustment is all I need.

I’m definitely a JRE junkie. I tend to listen in to most of the episodes for at least a few minutes even if the guests don’t seem to be interesting to me. I’ve also become a somewhat regular listener of Burr’s podcast as well as Your Mom’s House. I should probably broaden my horizons a bit more and try some new ones.

Radiolab is the same show that’s on NPR, so if you’ve heard that before, you know what you’re getting - delves into interesting topics, slick production, yada yada yada. It’s good, especially for just throwing on in the background.

Hardcore History, however, is THICK. Dan Carlin is an incredible storyteller and researcher, and he TAKES HIS DAMN TIME on a topic. No production of which to speak; just Dan’s voice. Which is not to say any of his work is boring - i find his work extremely engaging. But you have to be ready to slog thru some serious details. Seriously, he’ll spend four or five shows on an era in history, each show being between four and six hours long. And his turn-over rate for new shows is best described as glacial. But if you enjoy that kinda stuff, you’ll love this show.

The biggest downside to HH is that older episodes eventually go behind a pay-wall. They’re not expensive by any means, but yeah.

Episodes to look out for are Wrath of the Khans I-V, Death Throes of the Republic I-VI, Blueprint for Armageddon I-VI... though they’re all good, to be honest.
