Also I’d suggest adding the observation tower at the Quabbin as a checkpoint. It’s on a nice road and the view is spectacular.

Mount Sugarloaf in Deerfield is great for the same reason. You can see almost the whole Pioneer Valley from it.

I’ve only ever been in the summer-the road is steep but well taken care of. There’s a structure, parking lot, facilities, and picnic area up top. It actually gets very crowded, sometimes you have to park along the road and hike the last 1/4 mile or so.

From what I remember the road is closed in the winter and spring but in the summer and fall it’s open.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve been though. Things may have changed.
