I’ve been looking at Cherokees for over a year now. The best one I found was bought twenty minutes before I showed up for a test drive. Tell me what you think about this and what to look out for. I owned a 1999 back when that was a late model. This one looks rust free, and with the add-ons, the price is about fair market here in Indiana.

Looks pretty clean, save for the headliner. I’d worry about what looks like the stock steering damper with those tires and lift(?) on it.
Price isn’t too bad for what it is.

Looks about right for an XJ as far as I’ve seen around the Charlotte area.

other than the usual rust issues, the only other real big gotcha on those is the AMC 2.5 & 4.0 will eventually taper their cylinders as they reach 200,000 miles. They’ll keep running like that for a long time, but the blow-by will continually get worse and you’ll deal with high oil consumption and oil carry-over into the airbox via the crankcase ventilation system.

Nah, just run 15w-40. It’s completely manageable with thick juice.

mmm, maybe for a little bit. but I had a truck with another notorious cylinder taper... er (Navistar 6.9 IDI) which took 15W-40, and it drank through that like nothing.

How did I miss that?! I guess I just assumed it was 4WD with the lift kit and all...
