Oh boy, if it’s any thing like the road trips I have taken with car fulls of girls, I bet that plane couldn’t pass an airport with out have to stop for pee breaks..

*feels the sudden urge to explain flight to a crew of women even though they are professionals and I know nothing about flying*

Took them long enough, didn’t it?

I will say this, though: I went to a big air show yesterday and didn’t see a single woman pilot. I’m sure (at least I hope) there were some there, but I wish they had been more prominent.

Frontier had the first all-female flight deck back in 1984.

Weirdly, when I flew overseas a couple weeks ago, two of my four flights were completely un-womanned. It was very strange.

Hey now, be excellent...

Mocking mansplaining, which my wife tells me I have the utmost annoying tendency to do. A lot.

Heh. I chuckled at the pun. I must be ill.

Disappointed, thought it would be a fully autonomous plane. ‘Twas not.

I know what you were doing! You’re doing it now! You’re such a mansplainer!
I guess I do, too. I overexplain everything. I do it to everyone, though. She asked about why the Abarth was going whooshPSSSSHHHHHH when we were driving, and I asked her if she really wanted to know, she said yes, so I started at NA ICE engines and worked from there. She says I overexplained it.... But she understood it in the end!

I MANSPLAINED THAT I WAS MANSPLAINING how does my wife put up with me. I once got an explanation on how POP3 compares to IMAP for email protocols from my dad, which made me want to die. I guess I have the urge to spread that feeling of dread to other people by over-explaining things they never asked about.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned off the fasten safety belts sign, but ladies: it might just be a passive-aggressive way to ensure that you are moderately injured during any clear-air turbulence we might encounter. Might. Let’s just say the captain is still wearing her belt, so, you know...whatever you want to do is fine with us. By the way, I was doing air quotes when I said ‘clear-air turbulence’ so have a nice flight. We’ll keep our hands on the control yoke just to uh...keep us safe.”

Was wondering if it was an onion article, then I scrolled down.

I’m kind of surprised it took them this long, TBH. I know I’ve been on at least RJ flights with all female crews (granted that’s only 3 people in total).

I’ve had my dad try to explain things about flying to me, despite the fact that I’m a pilot, and he’s not.
Of course, I inherited that gene from him...

It’s my understanding that this was nothing more than a fluke of scheduling, and no effort on SWs part to make a statement. The first all-female flight deck, a Frontier flight in 1984, was also just a matter of schedule rotations.

I wonder if they actually have done it before and just didn’t realize it, or maybe this is just the first time on the MAX.

This is one of those things I see and say “Why is this news?” not because I don’t think women should be there; but because why is anyone surprised about women being in those jobs? It’s just an unusual coincidence that ten out of ten were female. Like flipping a coin and finding ten tails out of ten.
![]() 10/30/2017 at 11:07 |

It shouldn’t be news, yet it is. We still have a very long way to go on the acceptance of many things.

um did you just mansplain mocking mansplaining?
![]() 10/30/2017 at 11:33 |

Knowing Southwest this was a pure accident of scheduling.
![]() 10/30/2017 at 11:33 |

If I say yes does that mean I mansplained my mansplaining about mansplaining?
![]() 10/30/2017 at 11:35 |

Don’t mansplain my mansplaining your mansplaining mocking mansplaining

Pretty much. Can’t pass up a chance at PR, though.

“but I wish they had been more prominent.”
Me too. We need more women in high-skill jobs like this. My district is in the process of no longer making my class required for middle schoolers after this year. I am TERRIFIED that I am going to lose the girls out of my program. They’re on the whole better at shop work than the boys. More mature, and superior attention to detail. I don’t think I can handle an entire class of just middle school boys.

That sounds terrifying, but a bit like my house (I’ve got a HS frosh and two 6th graders).

Is it bad that I just don’t care. Personally it doesn’t matter to me at all what gender the crew. I just want a safe flight at the end of the day. I think it’s kinda sad that it’s newsworthy in 2017 but I acknowledge that I’m proveledged to be a male in our society and that not everyone thinks like I do.

YEP!
![]() 10/30/2017 at 13:27 |

What is sad is that this is news at all. But until women are on par with men in our society, it will continue to be news.
![]() 10/30/2017 at 13:30 |

Unfortunately I think it’s a generational thing that will get better slowly over time.
![]() 10/30/2017 at 13:33 |

Well, let’s see. It’s been 97 years since women were given the right to vote, and they still don’t make as much money as men doing the same jobs. I hope we don’t have to wait another 97 years.

Me too!, I’m just saying social change typically doesn’t happen overnight. As much as I would like it to.
