I used to think a car was just a means from getting to point A to point B, but that all changed when I laid eyes on the 1979 Honda Accord.

Honda made plenty of sports cars and plenty of fanboys.

But they were all FWD.

Which meant they were fun but compromised. Which meant a lot of car enthusiasts rejected those fanboys. Which started all sorts of fights between a group that shouldn’t be fighting.

And this is why I believe FWD Hondas are everything that’s wrong with this world. And I will not acknowledge them. Purple NSX T, you are my dream

Not yet, no. My mechanic and I are trying to work out a time for me to bring in the Logo, he thinks he can fix it. I also found a body place in Kanagawa. Frankly, I’ve got the cash on hand, I’m just going to go ahead and ask them to do as much as they can, because things are deteriorating a bit faster than I can keep up with, so I’d like to get it back to a place where me working on it doesn’t end up causing issues with its ability to be daily driven.

I could have also added the other member of the trio, the Rover 400/45, as well.

The intention was for a bunch of cool and obscure stuff. BTW, the Ridgeline in that image (not the Baja one) matches the one that’s sitting in our driveway.

Of course, had to include that Today. Iconic.

Kinja'd!!! Nauraushaun > TheHondaBro

Kinja'd!!!0

Well. The drive wheels are also the steering wheels. The more you accelerate, the more it negatively affects your steering. If you accelerate out of a corner you lose capability to steer out of the corner.

Meanwhile the rear wheels just dangle along back there :(

Kinja'd!!! TheHondaBro > Nauraushaun

Kinja'd!!!1

I’m absolutely burning up under all those blanket statements you made.

In a RWD car, the drive wheels are far behind the center of gravity. The more you accelerate, the more it’ll affect the steering. If you accelerate out of a corner, you’ll oversteer and spin out.

Unless, of course, you set it up right.

Which you people tend to refer to.

Yet you people also forget about the myriad of FWD race cars, FWD performance cars that exist. You know, the ones that are set up for handling.

It’s just a different set up between FWD and RWD, yet both are capable of achieving the same thing.

But that’s no fun, huh?

Kinja'd!!! Nauraushaun > TheHondaBro

I think handling oversteer is more enjoyable than handling understeer (ie. backing off the throttle and waiting). I’d wager it’s faster too, since you’re actually utilizing the grip of the rear tyres.

FWD performance cars are the way they are because they’re based on FWD non-performance cars. Purpose built performance cars are almost exclusively RWD (or more recently, AWD to handle modern power levels). Likewise with FWD race cars, the vast majority of (tarmac) race cars are RWD. But yes, FWD ones do exist.

Kinja'd!!! TheHondaBro > Nauraushaun
10/28/2017 at 19:24

Kinja'd!!!2

Yes, you people think that oversteer is more fun, but oversteer in at a wet roundabout into a pole is not fun one bit.

Also, you have yet to tell me how FWD is a compromise.

Kinja'd!!! Nauraushaun > TheHondaBro
10/28/2017 at 20:53

Kinja'd!!!0

Either is understeer in a wet roundabout into a pole! But yes it’s safer, particularly for an unskilled driver, but that’s not what a sports car is about.

I said FWD is slower and has a worse affect on steering, that’s compromise. It’s safer and gives better interior packaging as a trade off, but again, not the point of a sports car.

Oh that’s great news! Keep us updated on what was done, total cost and so on... I’m curious as to what you end up paying for such job here too... My car will need a minor rust repair soon, but I still haven’t figured out how much such thing costs here...
