So, a couple months ago I interviewed for a new job. I didn’t get it, and I know I didn’t get it because it is a government job and I saw the announcement when the person they hired was introduced at the council meeting.
About an hour ago I got a phone call from the person that conducted the interview wanting to know if I’m still interested??
I am, but I now have two other interviews lined up as well. One of them pays more than the one I interviewed for. The first job does have a better schedule and is closer to home though. I guess we’ll see what they have to say when I call back Monday.

You could also ask them to match the higher offer, if it comes to that.

Nice problem to have, relatively speaking.

I may ask for a bump from the base rate simply because I already have some credentials that they want the candidate to get within 2 years of being hired.
The difference though is about $3.50/hr so I doubt they’d go that far. If they come up at all I’ll take it though because the tax rate is lower and it’s a Mon-Fri first shift position with some on call time compared to third shift working every other Saturday.

To think 14 months ago I was unemployed and going to open interview sessions for dead end jobs.

It is usually a warning sign if there is quick turnover in a local government position. Tread cautiously.

Sort of, you know how stressed I’ve been this past week?

And now you’re a hot commodity!

A bit. Have been mildly worried about you.
Still, it’s better than no job choices.

I’ll be alright, even if I don’t know what the fuck I’m going to do.
Still better than being unemployed.

Good luck on government jobs.

A Schedule that’s better for your life, and shorter drive is almost always better than more pay.

That’s a good point. If they’re having a hard time holding on to employees there’s probably a reason

Both would be a massive improvement as far as my commute. I currently commute an hour each way.
The closer of these two is 15 min each way and the further would be 25-30 depending on which of their two facilities they’re hiring for.
Anything would beat my current schedule. I switch between second and third shift every 4 shifts and work two of three weekends.
