At lunch and thought of something. If money was no object, but you could only buy from one auto manufacturer for the rest of your life, which manufacturer would you choose?
My gut reaction is of course Ferrari. But, if I needed a family hauler, I’d be SOL. The GTC4Lusso would work ok, but I would like something bigger. Porsche would be the obvious, but a little too plain. So, I would pick Lamborghini, so long as they actually make that new SUV. No sedan options, but I could see two two-seaters and an SUV working out ok.
plus
So Oppo, what would you choose and why?

Since you said manufacturer and not brand. I’m going to say VW. So I can get everything from a Polo to a Lamborghini “fuck you”

Really there is no other answer. Porsche has all vehicle options covered. My question is does this rule apply to older cars as well? no matter, still doesn’t change my answer.

I think you mean VAG, VW is still a brand.

The answer is so obvious but I sort of view them as the Toyota of the exotic-ish world. I need to always wonder if my car is going to catch on fire today. haha
Audi could be a close 2nd with the A3-R8 range

If GM counts as a brand, I’d go with that. It’s got everything.
If not, Chevrolet because to get variety it’s either that or Ford... and I’m too stubborn to go with Ford. I can bring myself to give them credit where it’s due, I can’t commit to owning their products exclusively.

I meant it as Chevy or Audi. Not GM or VAG.
Chevy would be a good place to be. Tons of variety with great sports cars in the stable

Honestly, I’d probably pick Ford, especially if you start considering older models as well.
You’d have everything from tiny compacts to classic Muscle cars to full size sedans to trucks to hot hatches to supercars, even unique euro cars like the Capri. Heck, if you throw in sub-brands you can include stuff from Merkur and Edsel and a few years of Jaguar and Volvo.
And if money is no object, you can have someone build you a SHOgun or a replica of the mid engine mustang concept, or even that GN34 prototype that never go built.

If we can just choose ‘manufacturers’, I’ll go with Fiat.
Abarth , Alfa Romeo , Chrysler , Dodge , Fiat , Ferrari , Jeep , Lancia , Maserati .
That covers .
But if you mean just one brand, Porsche... but only if these cars count as Porsches:
Namely the ones in the background. Porsche’s diversity comes from the fact that they are also a tuner - hence the Audi, Mercedes and VW pictured.
But going from that angle, I could even argue for Lotus.
There’s the Sunbeam, Cortina, Carlton and even Isuzu Piazza - and if we’re going to get technical, here’s your Lotus SUV .
So, Porsche or Lotus I guess.

In my defense, it’s much more expensive than it sounds. The average NSX-R price is around $150,000. If anyone is even willing to sell one.

If the RS2 counts I’m allowing the 500E too, that car was basically all Porsche’s work underneath.
And the VW van, that’s even branded as a Porsche. It’s the Porsche B32 .
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Even those Isuzus I mentioned had ‘Handling by Lotus’ badges, so both options work for me.

Imma have to say Audi, because we’re currently shopping for something with 7+ seats and afaik Porsche doesn’t make anything like that.
I like the idea of renting other brands to get around the limit (lease a minivan, own a Ferrari). Not sure how much that would change my vote though.
