Part of the fun of looking for a house in parts of town that are mostly older houses is occasionally being horrified by ancient carpet, cabinets, and wallpaper. Today, I got to be horrified for a different reason. Yes, those are purple, hand-shaped chairs.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is half a duplex in a newer-construction part of the part of town I like here in Madison. The wacky decor is mixed with much of the original basic builder finishes, for example the kitchen.
I mean, they put in that wacky swoopy light fixture, but otherwise it’s the basic original formica countertops and cabinets. And yet...
But then you have the totally normal boring bathrooms.
And they finished the basement (complete with a leg lamp from A Christmas Story) but didn’t put in any flooring.
Oh, and the back yard? It’s an apartment complex.

Call me counter-culture, but I love this place! This is something where the people have their own identity and it comes through in their home decor. If anything, give them an offer and throw in 30k more for all the furniture and home decor.
Of course, my wife would never let me do that and she would not like this place at all.
But, those barstools would go great with my red velvet couch.

“What type of decorating theme would you like? Classic? Contemporary? Industrial?”
“Nah. None of those. Gimme the Skittles Theme.”

I’m all for putting your own spin on a place and not trying to do the usual boring stuff but this is too wacky 80s modernism for me.

This isn’t quite my taste but I love things that are a little weird and different. My wife has what I like to call “catalog taste” though so we butt heads quite a bit when it comes to decorations.

... I don’t hate it. I do like bright vivid colors though.

Honestly the worst thing about it to me is the clashing of all the traditional wood grain cabinets, fireplace, trim. Those dressers in the basement? You can’t go wild with colors and then just leave the cabinets and shit like that.

I had the same train poster on my wall growing up as they have behind that pool table. They do get points for good taste in train posters, if nothing else.

Wow, that would be considered tacky even in the ‘80's, when it was all purchased.

The colors, they burn the retinas.
I like the concrete basement floor, though.
