Would it make sense for Subaru to bring back the Baja? They’re the ones known for AWD. And I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard for them to scramble some kind of chassis together for it. Just throw the flat 6 they put the I don’t know in it and sell them!
Also just a reminder you can buy a Ute in America right now.
Edit: Here’s the builder, because why not. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I see quite a few Ridgelines around here, so it could work.

Goood Gooood. Perhaps that would pressure GM to bring back the El Camino!
My plan is working perfectly!

They are becoming a thing in South America now. We have the Fiat Toro and Renault (Dacia) Duster pick up, so it might arrive as a thing in the US in the next 10 years, just like how the Ford EcoSport was one of the first subcompact based suv’s back in 2003.
Pictured here from bottom to top: Duster, Toro and S10 (Colorado)
Also both VW and Hyundai have confirmed their plans for a competitor.

No. The Baja never made sense. Too small with to little utility over an outback. it was a wild hair and it aint coming back. The Ridgeline at least has room for people, stuff and can carry a decent load. FCA might do a smart though and bring the Ram 700 here as a work truck.

New Dakota and Hardbody, perhaps.

I’d love a new Elcamino but it would need to be based off the Camaro not the Malibu.

I’d be okay with Jeep or Ram bringing in the Fiat

If FCA brings in a small tuck it would have to be the bigger Toro not the 700.

Just a reminder you can buy an (expensive) ute in America right now. ;)

possible, but I still think the 700 is the one to bring in. Not for the masses, but for the tradesman, like a transit connect.

Hyundai have committed to car based ute. Mind you they’ve also committed to a body on frame pickup as well. US will get former but not latter. Oz will get latter not former.

True, the Toro’s crew car short bed arraignment is pretty useless as a real truck.

I think you are overestimating the size of the 700, it’s based on a 90's subcompact platform so it has a really small interior, think of it like a Geo Metro with a bed. It’s about the same footprint as a Nissan Versa.

I just don’t think there is enough market. The Baja, (while super cool,) was kind of a sales flop even in strong subie areas and the small pickup market isn’t any stronger plus there are more new competitors now... I’d say focus the development dollars on the bigger three row SUV and next gen motors to keep the bottom line solidly in the black.

That would be okay. But isn’t that front end on that photoshop a Malibu. Not an SS?

Idk, but since they already make a ute based of the Commodore, I’d imagine that’s what they’d use if they brought a ute to the US. Regardless of body panels.
