didn’t help mazda went all el-cheapo on the paint during the 2000s. They had rust on them coming off the boat.

my protege5 was made in japan. and came here by ship(the boat)
I got the rust proofing done by my dealer when i bought it. It had rust coming out under the rust proofing in less than a year.

well if you google mazda rust, almost half the pics are of protoge5 and you get that famous quebec mazda3
and yes mine was silver and had all the same rust spots as the silver ones that show up in google pics

In fairness to Mazda, they didn’t supply the steel, and aggressive carwashes after exposure to road salt helps loads.
Qualifier: I’ve owned a 2003 and 2 2004 6s. The 2003 had some mild perforated rust at the lower edges of the rear wheel arches - and I found out after I sold it that there are patch kits available! - that were there when I bought it, and both 2004s are/were rust-free in that area - though the one I sold didn’t have a single body panel without hail or lot damage.
