A guy inspecting/repairing high voltage power lines standing on the skid of a helicopter. So much nope.
Unrelated, I’ve been listening to
Girl Talk
’s ‘
Night Ripper’
album on loop for two days, it’s so damn good:
I leave for South Dakota tomorrow, so today was basically my Friday!

imagine the job interview ... ranging from “how’s your work ethic” to “do have anything left to live for?”

“I’m sorry, you have to ride on the outside of the helicopter because your balls won’t fit inside”

Can this seriously not be done with a drone yet? This seems like one of those jobs best left to the robots.

Whatever they pay that guy, it isn’t enough.
And I’m not sure why he can’t be inside the helicopter to inspect power lines TBH.

You have to touch the lines to test them, unfortunately.

Ah, I didn’t realize that - I thought it was a visual inspection, thanks!
I would still think this is begging for an apparatus that keeps the guy inside - hell I don’t like flying inside a helicopter, let alone being strapped to the skid!

They’re strapped in pretty well. Usually at the worst, they’d fall and be tethered.
Before they do anything, they clip onto the line so the whole deal - lines, helicopter, and person - are all isolated. The line is still energized, but they’re isolated.
Of course, sometimes they aren’t on the skid of the helicopter:

I’m sure for these people, it’s no big deal, or they wouldn’t do it. But I wouldn’t want any part of that gig —

Must have been outer areas of STL. Folks in the ‘burbs would have freaked out, and folks downtown or on the IL side would have shot at it or something.
