Kinja'd!!!

I had another phone interview today. I was at lunch with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in Savannah, who was flew in so we could drive to a friends bachelor party, and my phone rigs. We never set a time for the phone interview so I had no idea when it was going to be. Did it at the table anyways, we were already done eating and waiting to pay. Finish the interview with the guy saying well if that sounds good to you, we’ll send you an offer. First of all, why the fuck didn’t that happen when I was unemployed. Secondly, what the frac am I going to do.

This job would be in Texas. I don’t want to live in Colorado; a lot of people are like that’s awesome you’ve got an offer in Colorado, but I don’t really want to live there. I don’t really do the whole winter thing. They would also be paying more than the offer in Colorado.

To answer people’s questions from my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I don’t want to work in the field again, but I would take this job to get to a job I wanted eventually. That would take a couple years. I like having a normal schedule, but the grass isn’t always greener. I haven’t been that happy since taking this job; I’m just not good at making friends and having a social life. People from work are either on a shift or are married, and I haven’t been successful outside of work. None of my friends are near here. The money isn’t the main issue. Yeah, I’m currently underpaid, but I really don’t like my job that much. I would rather find a job down here. I’m going to talk to my employer tomorrow and talk about my future at the company, because if I could get a better opportunity going forward, it would make my outlook brighter. I at least would like to get some extra money out of it, that would at least mollify me for the time being.

Right now I have a very tough decision on my hands and I don’t know what the frac I’m going to do.

One word: Whataburger.

Unless you’re hard-pressed for cash, it’s probably better that you’re in a place you enjoy living and working in.

Their website says Thomasville. But Google maps can’t find the address?

I swear I went to a Whataburger in Atlanta when I was a kid. But I was in Texas a few times as a kid so I may have merged my memories.

Frac is only going to be hot for a couple of years and then die again, do you really want to do that again? I recommend taking up sailing and show dogs.

Good. Too many people coming in now anyway. I just want to leave. Winter’s aren’t bad on the front range. It gets chilly but snow isn’t a real issue outside of a few snow storms and it melts off in a week. Unless you are in the mountains. Then winter is a cannablistic animal that eats people, cars, horseshoes, and wolverines for a snack.

Well, it all goes back to what makes you happy, or at least what makes you least unhappy. If you don’t figure that out, you’ll just bring your unhappiness with you wherever you go. Take this job because it’s part of a plan to take you where you eventually want to be, or because the increased money is a priority for you. Don’t do it just to keep moving in the hope of finding something better over the next rise.

Re: social life. How about living where there are some opponauts around and jump-starting your social contacts through them? Only half kidding.

Seriously though, if you end up here, hit me up. I’ll take the bike and show you some good roads in the mountains.

Thomasville is almost Florida. That would be a weird location. I can’t recall one being in Atlanta ever

I think with the oil glut, frac proved it was here to stay. The US became the swing producer, and the OPEC countries are struggling. I think we’re going to have a much more balanced oil market in the future. We’re also going to need petrochemicals in the future as well.

I wanted to be in oil since I was a freshman in college. This would be a step closer to what I want to do. I don’t like my job here and am thinking about going back to oil. The money would just be a bonus.

I was in Florida this last weekend and was surprised to see one that far east.

Whataburger is supposed to have locations in 10 states across the South, from Texas eastward (plus Arizona and New Mexico). But, of course, the majority of their restaurants are here in the Lone Star State.

That Thomasville location seems to be the only one in Georgia. Whataburger’s website has directions. It appears to be here:

You can find more here, including all 668 locations in the greatest country on Earth: https://locations.whataburger.com/index.html

I’d say go where you’re happy, or certainly don’t go somewhere you’re confident you wouldn’t like. If you’re on the fence, take a few days and walk/drive around your next future city.

They’re in 10 states across the South. But some, like Georgia, only have one location.

C’mon... you KNOW you wanna come back to the Lone Star State. And not just for Whataburger, either! So many other yummy things around here, like brisket, and tacos and queso.

There are worse parts of TX. And the cost of living in TX is pretty good. That’s why so many people are moving here.

I’ve been to Dallas before, I really did like it there. I also used to live in Texas, so I’d be fine with moving back. The M3 would just be keeping its GA plate.

One of the best things about Texas was the Mexican food. I think I could live there again, maybe this time I would commit to learning Spanish.

Well, if you decide to come to Dallas, let me know. Maybe I can help you figure out where to settle. There are a lot of good reasons to live here.
