Kinja'd!!!

(edit) two walls with super light grey, one of which has the darkest grey option on top. I love it so far. Still undecided as to what the next move should be...

Kinja'd!!!

But... I am kinda excited to see how everything comes together! Of these, which would you pick for wall color? They’re all shades of grey

Went to Sherwin-Williams and bought a gallon of light grey, matte paint for my bedroom. After hours of prep work, mostly patching holes (when I bought the condo, I was told the previous owner’s children had airsoft gun wars inside...) I put down a fresh coat and realized I wanted something waaaaay darker.

So light grey will serve as a much needed base coat. I went back and got 5 different samples, which are all satin unfortunately. I forgot to specify, so my fault. I’m pretty set on the top left one which you can see above. Getting a gallon of that in matte finish should cover my whole room, and be slightly lighter in color compared to the satin that you can see in the header image. May do an accent wall... We’ll see how it looks without, first. Trim will probably stay white... Although I’ve thought about doing black trim and door... Popcorn ceilings will be left untouched because I don’t want to deal with that.

Anyways, fun stuff! Hoping to finish two walls today (light gray base, dark grey on top, trim installed and blended) then do one wall a day after work this week.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Will GLADLY accept any painting tips, or design input. Here is the room, right before I started. During the day, with lots of natural light, and at night with blackout curtains and “underglow”

Kinja'd!!!

Removed the closet doors to open up the room a bit more. Adventure gallery on the left, clothes on the right

Kinja'd!!!

Client gave me a brand new, $500 shag rug because it didn’t quite fit the look she wanted for a specific party. She could have returned it for free, but that wouldn’t have been worth her time

Kinja'd!!!

Put in flooring last year. Love it, but like most projects I only finished about 90%. Notice where the trim ends by the side table, and the lack of threshold where the door is

Bottom row, left.

I hate painting (house painting) too. If I ever close on the new place I’m having our painter at work come by and do it all. He’s only charging $12/hour and uses his tools.

Wow. Yeah, that’s the way to do it. Painter’s are the bane of my existence at work, so getting in on friendly terms with one... Is challenging haha

Each “sample” is two quarts so I feel like I’ll need some other projects soon...

Mix them together and use whatever it makes

I vote top left.

Personally if I’m going to paint something grey, I’ll want a grey with less brown. Because then I might as well paint it brown.

That would save money for race car things. I could definitely paint the entire room using the samples...

That’s my thought. I want a real grey. Funny thing is, that was the last sample I picked out, and almost passed on it because it looked too blue in the store

I’m afraid you may be about to turn that room into a cave. I’ve tried shades of grey, even exceptionally light shades, and they’ve always managed to make the room seem smaller and darker than what I liked.

It is a very yellow light compared to (what i’m assuming were) the fluorescent lamps in the store. The light in the room looks pretty yellow so that’s the one I’d go with.

I’m going for “cozy”. It’s a fairly large room so I’m hoping things work out, but yeah that’s definitely on my mind. Maybe a colorful accent wall if things look TOO cavelike

Grey goes well with an accent wall. I would probably pick the lightest possible color. Might not even be an issue if the room is pretty big like you say and especially if there is a lot of natural light.

I like the idea of grey and will probably attempt it again down the road. But I’ll probably try something that is exceptionally light.

Dark colors tend to make a room feel much smaller, I’d go with a warmer gray so it doesn’t get too oppressive. The large central and bottom left splotches are probably your best bet.

Those are some dark colors; you might consider painting one wall that color and the rest a very light shade from the same color strip as the color you choose.

My personal favorite color of the lot is the large top center color — it’s not too dark and it goes along with the colors of the other things in your room — and my second favorite would be the top right, sort of dark olive. One other suggestion: stay away from that semi-gloss and instead, use eggshell or low-sheen. Semigloss can make a color seem pretty garish.

But please do consider just painting one wall the dark color, particularly if you go with the dark green, which is a smashing color choice, btw, IMHO...

I really want a nice, warmish medium grey. Which I didn’t find so.... Back to the paint store! I’m thinking the new top left? Possible darker color accent wall. I’d like to keep the walls fairly unsaturated to make it easier to add colors elsewhere.

Kinja'd!!!

I want some dark emerald green somewhere.... Maybe once I tackle the overdue bathroom remodal

Own a window washing business. My biggest headache is dealing with paint and lacquer removal when the crews don’t cover the windows because ”the window washers can remove it easily”

I’ve definitely learned to get a ton of samples. You guys have talked me into looking for a healthy medium grey. Current plan is to use the top left color for all the walls and go from there

Ahh! I forgot that you went into that. I could see painters being a pita there for sure. Especially if someone got a new spray gun!

When I was in the apartment business the painter had to have it in their contract that they’d be responsible for glass on turnovers. Otherwise they’d roll right over the windows every dang time. They just didn’t care.

I think if I wanted gray, I’d paint one dark accent wall and the rest a very light grey from the same color series.

Use a warm color vs cooler. Like with a touch of beige or red and not blues/ Greens

That would be awesome. Do that. Don’t mix them much so you get an oil slick effect. Just put the all into the paint tray

Oil slick effect... That sounds pretty cool actually. I’m going to test that somewhere.

I’ve seen a lot of interesting paint finishes, but nice black paint with a bit of glitter, and some deep red metal flakes.... Oh man. It was in a gorgeous bathroom and ever since I’ve been dying to try something like that

We just (finished it on Friday) went with a dark gray in a small full guest bathroom, but it gets a lot of natural light. I was scared the gray was going to be way too dark for such a small space, but with the white trim, it looks really good and did not make the room feel small. The color is Lowes Valspar Ocean Storm.

That’s a good accent wall. There should be some contrast.

that black sounds awesome. I feel like the oil slick paint job would be one of those things that you need to know what you are doing or it just comes out like a splotchy mess.

I like the decor of your room, like a lot lol.

But I agree with everyone else. A dark accent wall and light walls for the rest would be best.

Thank you! It’s fun to do home projects sometimes, but my motivation only ever lasts enough for a few small things so it’s been a long work in progress haha

You guys convinced me. One dark wall it is. Probably painting my door dark to match
