I learned recently that there’s a big difference between the CLK-GTR, one of my boyhood favorites, and the CLR, which is the car that flew. That made me very happy.
I also learned that I cannot even remotely fit in the cockpit of a CLK-GTR and it was one of the most claustrophobic experiences of my life. That made me very sad.

The CLK-GTR was designed for a homologated FIA class. It had to be adapted into a street-legal car, so it came with *some* concessions to practicality and driveability.
The CLR was subject to no such restrictions as the GT1 class was effectively killed by its predecessor. The CLR’s aero is much more cutting-edge, hence the ability to fly given the right angle of attack (cresting a hill) and the right air flow (usually the turbulent wake of a car in front).

Yeah it was nuts. The seat bolsters were about 4 inches too close together so I couldn’t sit “in” the seat, there was only an inch or two of room on either side and above my legs, the pedals were about 3 inches too close to me, there is no dead pedal so your left foot is always resting on the clutch, and I only had an inch or two of headroom. I’m 5'9" and a bit portly so I don’t know who this car was built for, possibly a small child.
To get in, you have to climb over the huge structure that forms the side of the car but stay beneath the door that doesn’t open very far. Basically you almost have to sit on the engine cover, lean back, and slide in, trying not to kick anything. Took me a few tries.
After I got in and closed the door (which bows out so your arm is resting on the side structure, with your elbow farther from the centre of the car than the window, which obviously doesn’t roll down - it just has a bunch of open slots on the trailing edge) I realized that I might not actually be able to get out again. That took me a few attempts and eventually I crawled out on my hands and knees to avoid stepping on fragile bits of a car I am told is worth 4 or 5 million bucks.
It was totally awesome.
