Second place trophy from the Subaru shootout last month. Lost to a buddy running flex fuel with 50whp more than me. Not too bad for my fist time at the strip in a car not built to drag race.

Great work! It’s consistency that matters for this stuff. Anyone catch it on video for you? Did you guys dial in or was that head to head? (edit, NM I see where you dialed in) Also, nice 60'.

Last year I won ‘Buick Day’ at our local strip but mostly because only 3 Buicks showed up, and one of them didn’t want to race. We talked to the track officials and decided to do a best of 3. The other guy beat me on the first after I spun out, he redlighted on the second run, and I beat him by a nose on the third - we didn’t know who won until we picked up our timeslips on the way back! Video (skip to 0:40 if it doesn’t autoskip):

Had to be towed home after - my starter motor was giving out this day, I knew it wouldn’t turn the motor over again so I let it idle while I packed up and left immediately after I picked up the trophy, and when I stopped for gas 1/2way home it wouldn’t turn over again no matter what we did.

oh yeah! my buddy who does this a lot recommended staying on the matte portion in order to make sure I got some wheel slip and didn’t break axles.

Yea consistency eluded me somewhat. I had 1.7s 60's and 107mph traps but I had issues missing third and I could never put them together. the car could break into the 12s if I could put a run together.

Turbo car with a top mount intercooler doesn’t like hotlapping and sitting in the staging lanes.

Nothing wrong with a little slip, especially if your car has DD duties. I managed a 12.5 with my C5z, taking it easy with a 2.0x 60' and no burnout. We need more drag racers on Oppo!

Here’s my 2-run vid (feel free to skip the first 40 seconds of prep/staging)

Nice!

We had a 2 day event, track day friday, drag day saturday and it is my only car so enthusiasm and wanting to go faster had to be balanced with needing to drive home

Unfortunately no one at the event got a video or pictures of my car.

I was always to busy/nervous to actually get a video going inside even though I had a go-pro sitting in the pits.

I agree, we need more racers on Oppo!

Glad someone else knows how to do a safe and mature approach! My friends afterwards couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to clutch dump off the line and powershift each gear.

And I’ll bet you remember the gopro next time, I just did a suction cup mount on the inside of my back windshield.

Yeah, heat becomes a big issue when hotlapping. It also sucks when your starter is crapping out so you can’t shut off between runs ;) I spend a while cruising around the pits at low speed to help cool it down between heats, but I couldn’t shut it off due to my dying starter!
