Funny is that my Lenovo thinkpad for work looks almost exactly like that one on the right, just half the thickness. My wife’s Dell is more like the one on the left, but bigger because we still wanted a big HDD and onboard DVD. No need for portability.

I remember when I thought ditching 4:3 laptop screens was a bad thing ... that thing looks so square now.

I had an XPS 13 like that for the first semester of my Freshman year. It is a good machine but that 3200x1800 display drove me insane. Windows display scaling does not work well enough for that high of a resolution on a 13 inch machine. Sold it to my dad for retail price and bought an XPS 15 with the 1080p display when they updated that design to match the 13 at the end of 2015.

Here’s proof. This is a 2007 15" T60 next to it.

Kinja'd!!!

T60 15" thickness: 1.2" depending on configuration

ThinkPad 770 thiccness: 2.2"

ye that’s my dad’s XPS13. it’s nice but the super high res screens are still gimmicky

It’s beautiful when scaling works correctly but a massive pain when it doesn’t. Until Microsoft figures how to get scaling to work all the time I am going to be avoiding any displays I can’t use at 100% scaling. I will probably stick a 30-40in 4k TV into my desktop setup at some point so I can see more of a schematic without panning but it has to be big enough I can use it comfortably.

I had the same machine, one of the earlier XPS 13s with that ridiculous resolution. I had to run it at half resolution to make it usable, but it looked like shit. Never tried windws 10 on it but whatever, thing was crap.

I miss 16:10. I have an old gateway FX with a gorgeous 17" screen. It was so nice to game and work on. Loved that laptop when it was my main and now it’s my backup PC. It rocks an X9100 core2extreme, 16GB of ram, 2x 500GB 7200rpm drives in raid-0 and a 9800GTS nvidia card. I have a genuine emotional tie to that laptop and I don’t know if it’ll ever leave my possession.

have the XPS 15 for work on the go (minus video/photo/web work I use an Aorus for that), I find it extremely annoying that it does not have a 10-key. Why the f are you in the 15.6" format without a damned 10 key.

Looking at my XPS 15 you could only add ~1.5 rows of keys to each side of the keyboard before you run into the ports on the side of the laptop. 15" screen but 14" footprint.

You’ve got me beat by about a year. I’ve got an AMD Phenom II box here from 2009 that I thought about replacing, but nah ... bought some DDR2 off eBay, stick an SSD in, clean out the dust and we’re good to go.

What’s endears it to me, weirdly, is that if I ever have a BIOS reset I have to remember it’s cores 0,1,3 that work and that #2 is busted.

Do you have an honest to God phenom II triple or is it a quad that has seen better days?

Amusingly, neither. It’s a dual-core with a 3rd core that works, and a 4th that reveals its defect only when stressed directly. If I started up with all 4 active, the whole thing would hiccup along for 10 minutes or so before something more serious happened (blue screen, lock up, etc).

The fact that it was sold as a dual-core is why I have to remember which core doesn’t work - on a BIOS reset only cores 0 and 1 will be enabled.
