Why the R31 is better:

Air dam goes up, air dam goes down.

First thing I’d do if I had an R31 was paint the air dam body color, just so you could see it more clearly when deploying it.

Why does it remind me of a fox body

I’d love to get a Fox-body and swap an I6 into it, then follow the Japanese tuner culture in terms of aesthetic. It would really trigger the Mustang enthusiast crowd.
What I6 engines are cheap and plentiful in the US? I can only think of BMW. I know the Toyota 2J-series, but those are increasingly hard to find and rapidly appreciating. I’d rather not use a truck motor, but I guess it might be a wash in terms of weight compared to the iron-block boat-anchor that is the 4.9L they normally come with.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

There are a few Japanese options. The 2JZ is still one of the cheapest in NA form and NA-T is just as good as the GTE with the right parts. The 7M isn’t bad once you replace the head gasket. Those are the only cheap straight 6's. I suppose you could shoe-horn 1FZ - basically a massive 2J from a Land Cruiser.
You could go RB, but the only cheap one is the RB20det. RB25det and 26 are a bit more money.
Kinda depends on your definition of cheap.
The 4.9L is actually pretty light in reality. It’s about the same weight as an LS motor because the block is pretty small. An NA 2J is about the same weight as well, actually maybe a little more.

That syle was pretty common back then across a lot of manufacturers. No idea who did it first, but it was likely the mustang.
The 1979 Silvia had a similar notchback styling to the 1979 mustang notch (first year for both the Silvia and Mustang).
Makes me wonder who was the first to do the notch style.

Since I don’t have the money, time, or ability to do any of this myself, let alone pay a shop, cost is truly irrelevant as it isn’t going to happen.

Pretty sure if I had one I’d be needing to replace that mechanism with every oil change due to excessive use

Really want to try out fender mound mirrors. One could put the argument that the elimination of blind spots outweighs any pedestrian danger
