“Disrupting the industry”? Yeah, that’s putting it mildly. If you don’t care much about driverless cars, get ready to.

Erik’s recent !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on Jalopnik brings up some important points about what it will mean to share the road with autonomous cars. Spoiler alert: it’s not exactly all rainbows and lollipops.

Like it or not, this is what we’re going to have to deal with. Can states replace stop signs with yield signs, and raise speed limits in time for the revolution?

Even then, there will be other challenges to deal with. Like what happens when HAVs face a mandatory recall? Will they be immediately rendered non-roadworthy until a repair is made (or software update issued)? So many questions...

What are some other ways in which HAVs are going to shake things up?

What happens if you flash your lights at one - would it get confused? I would think all the sensor gizmos would be awfully prone to vandalism too...

My first thought is that the car would either ignore the flashing, or interpret it as coming from an emergency vehicle. Imagine being able to force HAVs to pull over at will. Nah, that’d be too easy. They’ve have to be able to detect the color of the flashing lights, wouldn’t they?

This is how you share to Oppo. You know who you are, even if I don’t.
