Unless they can offer better pricing than Costco ( Tier One Rated Fuel) , what’s the point?

Are Sony walkmans coming back as well?

I’ll have to GTFO then, we don’t have those ‘round these parts.

I always thought it was really stupid to kill that whole brand.

I’m surprised it took this long after the oil spill.

Nobody’s got it, it was discontinued.

Lingering negative sentiment from the oil spill?

Me too. Growing up, the closest gas station to where I lived was an Amoco, so the brand has a bit of nostalgia to me.

I see. No Sonoco stations at all around here, so I wouldn’t know.

It’s coming back? Why? Is it because the BP brand is tarnished due to that Deepwater Horizon oil spill?

Yes it is... for ONLY $4000...

Probably. They’ve had a reduced presence around here since, and I’m nowhere close to the Gulf of Mexico.

Yep. Plus we are a very nationalistic country so “AMerican Oil COmpany” is better than “British Petroleum”. Other commenters are sharing memories of the Amoco near them so if you wanted a gas station you could either be a BP or an Amoco station depending on your wants/needs for the area.

It was kind of dumb to kill it in the first place. There was no reason BP and Amoco couldn’t have coexisted in the US, both brands had established equity here, but Amoco was most certainly the better known and better recognized to American consumers.
Also good to see that they’ve left the classic Standard Oil torch logo mostly untouched, instead of doing something stupid like just spelling out “amoco” in lower case sans serif italics.

Agreed. Other companies (ExxonMobil, Marathon) have overlapping brands and it works fine.

No...just standard market forces with another business offering a commodity.
