Our usual setup is that we have a table over the dog kennel. But now that we have two dogs, I figured I should just make a new custom one.
This was my first foray into making something like quite like this. It turned out pretty decent, especially so since I kept changing the plans to make it sturdier, and to adapt to both kennels.
It was a lot easier than expected. Making sure the measurements were exact was the most difficult part.

Thanks! The knowledge gained can be used to built a custom corner desk, since we need one, lol.

It’s really a great idea.

Your home looks well lived in. I approve. Nice work, too. I can’t drive a nail straight.

Nice work! I find it super-satisfying when things are custom fit, like you’ve done for those kennels. No wasted space.

Dog kennels take up so much space. It’s ridiculous. For the table, I managed to make it so the kennels can slide in and out of it.

Hahahaha, thanks! I learned from past mistakes. Like, it’s a good idea to pre-drill holes to prevent the wood from splitting. And never throw out any excess wood! It can be used for another project later on. We have so much extra wood around here, lol. And always measure twice, cut once. :)

I refuse to waste space here, lol. We are limited in closet space, so I usually put up a shelf.

I considered it, but I have no where to stain it except the driveway, which is not ideal. The benefit of this design, is that if one of the planks get messed up, I can just replace it.

$2 tarp and an open window you can stain wherever you want :)
I haven’t used coffee on white wood studs but it makes for a pleasant but not overpowering stain, if you’re all green and crap about it.

Lol, I’m new to this stuff, but I do want to stain something later on. I’m a bass guitar player and I’ve been wanting to wood stain a bass body; so it’s on my list. I also need to make a corner computer desk, which I need a one or two pieces top for. I’ll probably try my hand to stain that. We have two desktops up and running for the family; a regular windows 7 OS and an Ubuntu one I’m trying to setup for music recording and what not.

for the love of god, please do not stain a bass body as your first stain project. or preferably, even your second stain project. staining isn’t hard but you want to get an idea of proper prep, how long it takes to penetrate, how long to let it dwell, how heavy vs. how many coats... there’s definitely a little bit of a touch to it for finished-finished projects where people are going to handle it and look at it. basically - a bass is not a table or floor.

The idea was to show off the wood grain in a cool color, then to seal it up. Unfortunately, most bass guitar kits are basswood, which I’m told is horrible for staining; I need a mahogany kit.
Actually, the diy bass kit is on hold for me. I wanted to make the computer desk first.
