I have two trade offers on the table and I can’t make up my mind!

I’m trading my trusty MR2 for another bike. Both bikes will be coming with a similar amount of cash on top so the “price” is basically the same for either.

2009 Yamaha FZ6 with 30,000 miles

It’ll need a new timing chain tensioner in the near future, but is otherwise very clean. If I got this bike, I’d daily and tour on it and my SV650 would assume the role of track bike. This is definitely a better touring and 2-up bike than my SV, but the high mileage (which would only get higher) gives me pause for potential resale value.

2002 Suzuki GSX-R600 with 23,000 miles

Haven’t seen it in person yet, but looks very clean as well. If I got this bike, it would become my track bike and the SV650 would continue as my street bike. I really like riding my SV at track days, but I haven’t ridden a 600 in anger at a track so I don’t know what I’m missing. I just got the bump to the intermediate class and I feel really comfortable riding my SV hard so I’m not sure if it would be better to continue developing my skills on the SV or make the jump to a faster bike.

I also may immediately try to trade either bike for a dual sport of some other bike so which one do you think has better value or trade-ability?

Other than power delivery the Fizzer is about the same bike as the SV while the Gixxer will probably make for a better track bike. I also think the Gixxer will be easier to sell/trade and probably retains value better...especially if it’s stock. I had an FZ6, so it’s hard to say go for the other as I liked it’s versatility and performance for the money.

I know nothing about bikes. If I were trying to get one to sell or trade, I would trade for the Suzuki because I know the brand better. It also looks more like what someone would want to get with the flashy yellow business going on.

I’m starting to lean toward the gsxr for those reasons. The FZ6 is too similar to the SV, I want to try something different and also for the resale-ability.

As much as I loved my FZ6 and had about 50k on it when it sold, Yamaha did cheap out on the suspension after 06 IIRC, and like everyone else said, it’s very similar in temperament to your SV.

The seating position improvement alone makes the GSXR a better track bike than what you’re used to. Also it’s yellow and we all know where my bias lies.

I’m assuming either party is bringing cash to the trade as well.

GSXR would be the better deal for you as it’s easy to unload either by you or the dealer. Finding a stock one that hasn’t been layed down was a very rare occasion when i lived in Florida. If you’re planning on keeping it check insurance rates (unless your state doesn’t require bike insurance). GSXR’s are expensive to insure in FL because everyone crashes them and needs new plastics. Triumphs were much cheaper as they tended to be owned by older riders who didn’t stunt or do stupid things.

I had an FZ-6. It was great as a daily commuter.

I did a long trip from Detroit to Vegas, Salt Lake City, then back. I had it kitted out with all sorts of bags and a touring screen. I wouldn’t make that trip again on that bike. The handle bars hum like a tuning fork at highway speeds. The fuel tank really only allows for a sub 200 mile range when packed out for a long trip. I guess that sort of worked in my favor since frequent stops were necessary to offset fatigue.

I loved my FZ-6 for what it was: a daily commuter that could fake it for short stints of sporty riding or touring.

I guess I fall in line with everyone else. Keep SV for daily and light touring. Get the gixxer for track time.

Neither. If you’re looking for track duty on the cheap, you can get a 10yr old 600 that’s already track prepped for <$5k. You could also buy a 2nd SV that’s already track prepped for less than the cost to add the parts to yours.

Or, take out a loan and get a new literbike and add a few parts. Leftover ‘16 RSV4s are $13.5k, and only need about $1,200 to convert to track duty (bodywork + rearsets). ECU upgrade is $800, really only needed if you add an exhaust.

If you want a 600, a leftover R6 is $9k. Again, not much needed for track duty besides bodywork + rearsets. ECU upgrade on these is $500 or so, useful with or without an exhaust.

GSXR for sure. Will make a great track bike, and the SV will continue to be a good daily bike. FZ6 would be a cool daily, but very similar to the SV. If anything, hold out for a FZ1 and make that an awesome daily bike.

GSXR600 if you can live with the riding position and slightly more costs to run it. My ZXR750 is probably just as extreme in the riding position sense, but using it around town is no problem for me.

Otherwise FZ6S.

I feel like 23k on the higher stressed engine of the gixxer would be more of a concern than 30k on an fz6. I think good service records would sway my opinion to one or the other.
