Most of you have read a lot about how much fun this stuff is. It’s not been a great year for the northern division of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Car counts have dropped way down since this spring. The last three events have been canceled. They need eight more registered drivers by midnight Wednesday, or all remaining events for the year will be canceled. I implore anybody who is in the area, anybody who can, anybody who has said they would give it a go or just wants to try it out, register in the next two days. It’s such a great group, and it’s so much fun. Let’s not let this go away! All you need is a vehicle that moves under it’s own power and a helmet.

UPDATE: We need seven more drivers registered by tonight, or no more rallycross for the year. I’m not optimistic about next year either.

You can get a motorcycle helmet for under $100, and that will be fine. Just get at least a 3/4 helmet.

If you want to grab that free Olds, you could always run that!

Never mind.

It’s an 8 hour drive, which isn’t tooo bad, but more than I care to drive for just a day, plus I don’t want to potentially break my only vehicle. Certainly sounds like fun though and I’d love to try it some day.

As much as I would love to try it, I don’t think I can justify using my NC (my only car). I’m in Elgin though so it’s not too far and as soon as I get a beater/project I’d love to give it a go for sure. I was actually in Byron for work Saturday, weird coincidence.

There are classes, but no cap or anything. Run what ya brung. It’s mostly beaters there though, because it is hard on vehicles.

If there was rallycross in my local area, I definitely would have considered it more. And same goes for where Im moving to California. Its just not something common in denser areas I suppose. I’ve got the perfect car for it right about now too.

I haven’t heard back about the Oldsmobile. If you register before midnight though, you can drive the RallyMetro. They allow 2-driver cars, and we need the numbers. I thought my navigator was going to drive it, but he’s getting wishy-washy on me.

They just announced they’re canceling this weekend because it’s too wet. They’re not canceling the November 12th event though, so that’s when we’ll be racing.

You really can just buy a 3/4 or full face motorcycle helmet from any motorcycle shop for under $100. I decided to invest in a real Snell rated helmet car racing though, to keep my future racing options open. That was more like $300, but I decided my head was worth it.

I got mine at Northstar Motorsports in Barrington. They’re super nice there.

Either way, don’t just order one online. Helmet figment is very particular, and you need to try them on.

Great news! They cancelled this weekend’s event because it’s too wet, but they DIDN’T cancel the Nov 12th event. So, we get another chance! Pencil it in now if you can :)

Two things: you don’t need a fire suit for this kind of racing. Also, a day at Byron is like going back in time to the dust bowl in Kansas, so that white suit will be brown by the end of the day.
