This past weekend we made a last minute decision (Friday) to attend the local Oktoberfest. It’s in a little tourist trap of a town (Leavenworth) and of course all the local rooms were booked. The cheapest room we could find was $350 and was about 30 min out of town, requiring a shuttle which cost $60.
Being the cheap ass that I am, I knew I could do better. So I rented a 12 passenger van. I took it home, put the seats in my garage, and tossed in the inflatable mattress and camping gear. It worked out great. We just stumbled back to the van, passed out, and drove home the next morning. Total cost with gas was just under $200.
TLDR: Now I want a van

Just remember not to put your keys in the ignition some states can get you for “drunk driving” even if your camping/sleeping in the back. They claim it’s evidence you were driving. Doubt it’s common but would suck to deal with.

Nice thinking! I was raised up in WA and my wife wanted to see Leavenworth at Christmas so we went up for a visit. There was a similar situation with hotels and I have plenty of family in the Seattle area so we just ended up driving over and back in the same day since I had not been drinking. I bet Oktoberfest is crazy up there. I love the restaurants in town.
